I have an A and B list...It's really because of the money issue...I wouldn't be offended.

We only have an A-list. I think it is terribly insulting to have tiers of importance. Every person on our guest lists is invited because we want them there. If people say no, they are not replaced.

the only reason we have a 'B' list is because we are having a small wedding and can't invite everyone we would want to. we cannot exceed a certain number and would love to include certain people if we get more than a few 'no's'. Like my sister's in laws for example. I don't know them very well and they live in CA. But we would extend an invite to them if we can.
A lot of people do this.

I wouldn't be insulted - lots of people can't invite everyone they'd like to - that doesn't mean they don't think you're important enough to share in their special day. It's just too expensive, and I try to be understanding of that.

I understand the money issues. But I still don't like b-lists.

Yes. I understand the money issues but I think you can plan more carefully as to not be so obvious. ( send the A list invites out REALLY early etc.)

that's what I plan on doing. my RSVP date is 10/1 and I'm mailing them out the week of 8/22.

I agree! To receive an invite with an RSVP date two days away is ridiculous. We had a lot of OOT guests/relatives and we sent them out REALLY early because we figured if we didn't have certain people come, we could invite more. Then, when we sent out the 'general' list of invites, we paid extra to have different rsvp cards with a different return date so the '2nd round' of people still had almost a month to answer.

that is a really good idea!!! I bet that if I called the place I got my invites from, I could get a few RSVP cards printed up with a later date. I don't need the envelopes, just the cards.

It was probably the best $100 we spent!

We had a B list. but, I had new RSVP cards printed up for exactly that reason...they had less time than the 'A listers' but, I don't think it was so short that they realized off the bat.
oh, eta: for people who we 'B listed', we wouldn't be offended if they B list us in the future. But, if it were someone who we thought we were close with, I guess we would be

Re: would you be insulted??
I would definitely not be insulted. We had to have a b-list due to the vast numbers of people who either wren't coming or weren't bringing their spouse. All the people we invited later on were not inimportant to us. They were on the original list but had to be dropped because we were inviting too many. We did not forsee the issue we ending up having and were in way trying to be insulting to anyone. Sometimes things happen.

Re: would you be insulted??
FI's co worker sent out his wedding invitation 3 days after the RSVP date haha it was like 3 weeks before the wedding, I guess some people just have to wait and see who responds and who doesn't
