if your FI had a house that he owned and did not want to sell...even though it would help the cause of paying for your new house and wedding-or if at the time you bought your home together he still put money into his old house....

Re: would you be mad...
sentiment and his mommy....
basically his mom has lived in the house her whole life-so he wants to keep the house, pay into the house ( he pays all the bills) and continue doing so after we have our own house.
( by the way..his mom works, has plenty of cash saved and is very able to live alone)

Re: would you be mad...
that's kinda hard to kick the mom out, regardless if she has money or not. I'm not sure....

Re: would you be mad...
if his mom lives there and can pay the bills herself, well then I would be annoyed.
My Fh is currently doing this with his mom's car - his parents have plenty of $$$ yet somehow he is paying his mom's car insurance He says he will stop when we get our new house, but I think he should stop NOW so we can put that extra savings towards wedding/home/HM/furniture/etc.

Re: would you be mad...
as long as I didn't have to pay more then my fair share for our living expenses- I would be ok with it
if he has the money to have 2 houses- then what can you say

I agree! I also think that it's just wrong to cause any friction between a child and their parent. If he wants to do it - why not....I wouldn't say anything.

Re: would you be mad...
I would def. say keep the house as an investment if it was not keeping us from doing what we ned to do...
for instance-we have a downpaymnt for a new house and we looked and fell in love..and after everything was said and done he felt that with saving for the wedding, paying mortgages and bills and still having to kick in to his house that we could not buy the house just yet...
that is basically saying to me that if he sold that house he would have no issues

Re: would you be mad...
would he be willing to sell the house and help his Mom buy a condo? why does she need a big house all by herself
and I am not sure why she let's her son pay her way- what does she use her money for?
I am sorry- but this situation seems strange to me- my Dad wont even allow me to buy him gifts-

Re: would you be mad...
something's missing..not getting the whole story here. There has to be a reason he wants to continue this that's not just sentiment and his mommy..did he make a promise to his Dad that he would take care of her always or something like that?

Re: would you be mad...
oh ladies if you only knew what type of person she is...
I am all for a condo or townhouse....that is his mommy and I would never want her to need anything..afterall she gave him life...
but she is the worst..for instance- she called me the wrong name one night at dinner ( no really) and when I mentioned something to FI she stormed off into her side of the house and locked herself in her room...the next day she got mugged...but they found her wallet blocks away with nothing missing and never mentioned it again..or last year we went to Aruba and she fell that day in front of the house and was all about him coming home early-we finally get home ( when we were scheduled to) and no cast...walking along fine...understand?

Nope Dad is out of the pic and has been for years...not leaving any part of the story out at all...and I do not live there. He lives there and she lives in the same house. He owns the house fully. I live in my apt and pay alot of rent.

Re: would you be mad...
i would probably be upset if the mother could pay on her own, but think about it what if it was your mother? how would you feel if he said this to you>

Re: would you be mad...
my mom wants what is best for us and understands that...my mom works 2 jobs and would never ever think about holding me back from owning my own home...but I know what you are saying.
Trust me I do not want her living on the street...
