My stepmother told me the other day, that she is going to wear the dress she wore to her wedding with my father last year to my wedding. It is a cream colored dress. I am a little upset. Everyone is getting new dresses and I just think that her WEDDING dress is a little tooo dressy for my wedding. It doesn't look like a typical wedding dress, as she was 60 when she married my dad, but I still know and so does the rest of the family that will be at my wedding who were at hers. Plus, I don't like the fact that she is going to be in such a light color that is somewhat close to white. She bought new dresses for her own sons weddings, why not mine? And she is not broke, she can definitely afford a new dress. I am wrong for being a little upset?

I don't think you're wrong for being upset. Can you speak to her about this or maybe your dad?
I hope it all works out for you

Have you spoken to her about this? Just explain exactly the way you told us. She probably doesn't realize that it hurts you. If that doesn't work, tell your dad to talk to her. I'm telling my mom exactly what to wear, she doesn't have a choice there. Let us know how it turns out.

Re: Would you be mad at this??
Yep, I'd be ticked off.
Which is why I just mailed my step mother her dress for my wedding. They are paying me back for the cost.
I got her real involved like 'oh no, that just would NOT do anything for you' or better yet 'No that would make your butt look big' and 'Nope that sorta makes your belly pop out'
Mind you she and I wear the same size. She's 60 herself and a real wench of a woman if Im speaking nicely of her. But I've had to put up with this B!tch since I was 11. I have this technique down to a science.

Re: Would you be mad at this??
I clicked yes, but it's just because i'm tired and i meant to click no...i need more coffee. that would make me feel terrible becuse that would make me feel that my wedidng isn't special to her, that it's just another party and it doesn't deserve a special outfit. the color wouldnt' bother me, but the fact that it was her wedding dress would! isn't it the worst thing that you can do to wear a wedding dress to a wedding? isnt' that like the number 1 rule of what you shouldn't do!!??

Re: Would you be mad at this??
My MIL wore the same dress that she wore to her sons wedding, I calle dit laziness, since she didn't want to go out and look fro another dress.
SIL is getting marreid this year, and she better wear the same dress again, or I will flip!!!!!

I would be annoyed, but not upset. It's not right for her to wear cream - too close to white, just like you said. Maybe you could suggest that she wear a pretty shawl in a nice vibrant color, at least to the church. It'll be chilly in Feb anyway.

ooops i answered wrong I clicked yes but i was answering your title question. yes i would be upset about this. I think it is totally tacky to wear white or cream to a wedding, especially your step mother!

I would be upset not becuase its not a new dress but because is what worn for her wedding, with all your family present and its such a light color! I feel that if she wants to wear cream she should clear it with you first!

Re: Would you be mad at this??
Of course I must play the Devil's Advocate...maybe your stepmother thinks that it's a special occasion and that she should wear a 'special' dress...maybe she thinks you may be honored for her to wear her wedding dress
BUT, I do think you have a right to be a little upset. Maybe your dad can tell her that HE would rather she didn't wear her wedding dress because he wants to remember her in it on their wedding day--? Maybe you can tell her the color is wrong for February--which would be true, you don't see too many light colors in the winter.
I'm assuming that your relationship with your stepmother is good and that you want to keep it that way??
Good luck

I think I would be upset... forget about the color of the dress, it's what she wore to her wedding!! I would talk to her and ask her politely why she wants to wear that dress, and if it is because it's a special occasion, then voice your opinion or see what she says... but aren't you only supposed to wear your wedding dress once???

I voted no, you are entitled to your feelings, but in all honesty, no one notices anyone else, you will be the star of the ball. Even if she shows up naked no one will care. Don't sweat it sweetie, if she wants to wear it, so be it.

Your feelings are your feelings, there is no right or wrong. Personally, I don't think this would upset me. If she wants to wear the same dress again, who cares? She is going to be the one who everyone sees as too cheap to buy a new dress, it does not reflect on you.

Re: Would you be mad at this??
I would be upset too! When my sister got married in a fairly casual day wedding on the beach in May, her now MIL wore this strapless, sequined, white evening gown to the wedding. I was appalled! Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't everyone know better than to wear white/cream/or anything similar at a wedding!?!?

Seriously the moment she walks in with a white/cream dress people will be whispering about her. Especially since she is MOG not MOB. I mean does she really want that? If I were a mom, I would not want that. I would def tell her my feelings.
