Would you be mad if someone took ...

a name you loved for a child and used it for their own beofre you even had a child?

I would just use it, unless it was my brother or FH's brother who used it.

Did this person know you liked the name?

Oh yeah, I am also a big believer in waiting to see the child before naming it. You may have a name picked out and after one look at the baby, you think something different that may be significant to the date of birth or people who were present who helped.

I was. I know it's stupid to get mad over something like that but I couldn't help the way I felt. When I told the person they said 'oh, I knew someone told me they liked that name..'
There is really nothing I can do about it!

I think that was an episode on Sex & the City? Remember Charlotte loved the name Shayla & the lady used it? I also think on Friends, Courtney Cox liked the name Emma & Rachel used it, right? Ok, I watch way too much TV!

To answer your question, if they knew I wanted to use it & then they used it, I'd probably be mad at first, but in the end I guess it wouldn't really make a difference. But I haven't been in that situation obviously.

I has not happened to me, but I was just thinking that I really like the the name Joseph, always had, but that if FIL's name. My BIL is pregnant on their second child, and I ahve no clue what names they are interested in, but just thinking that liking a family name before even getting pregnant might be stupid.

i'd be mad if it was a unique name that i had made clear i wanted to name my child. but if it's a pretty generic name you can't be too mad.

One name I would get mad over is Paige. I only dropped my last name since I was going to use it as my daughter's name.

I would flip over that!!!

I would be ticked off if it was another those situations where someone suddenly realizes they love the name AFTER you already said you loved it. I hate when peolpe only like something after you tell them that you like it and then have the nerve to use the idea before you. I mean isn't it enough that you stole it, can it least be used by me first It happened to my mother not me but she says she is still annoyed, I have 3 cousins that have my name So in conclusion Yes I would be very annoyed.

That is why I refuse to tell anyone what names we've picked out!!!

If the person who 'steals' my names is close to me, I couldn't name them that anymore. But of course if it's not someone we're close with it would only bother me slightly

Yes! And it is kinda happening to me now. I ALWAYS wanted to name a boy Jack for as long as I can remember. This is because my initials are J.A.K. and this was my way of naming a kid after me without it being so obvious. Now my FH's sister is having a baby and she is naming him Jackson!!!! I am so mad, but she didn't know. I think I still might name a boy Jack anyway.
