Would you be mad if your FH lied to you about buying your ring from Tiffanys?
I remember a post a while back about someone finding out their e-ring wasn't a real diamond and there were a number of reactions. Many people said it wasnt the fact that the ring wasn't a diamond, but that the girl's FH lied to her.
What if your FH lied, but to a lesser extent. Ex: what if your FH bought a ring on ebay, in a regular jewelry store, or somewhere else but lied to you and told you it was from Tiffany's? Now obviously it's not important for an e-ring to be from Tiffany's, HW, Cartier or any other 'name' shop. However, your FH lied to you about it.
Would you want to know? Would you be upset? Would you tell a friend if she was in that situation? Would you feel differently if FH lied to you about the quality of the stone as opposed to where he bought it?
(Disclaimer: I'm not in this situation -- FH and I picked out my ring together and it's not from Tiffanys -- but the boards are slow today. I was inspired by all of the 'Tiffany's' boxes for sale on ebay, and the 'Tiffany's style' rings offered by most jewelers that look similar but are clearly not the same delicate curved setting)
Re: Would you be mad if your FH lied to you about buying your ring from Tiffanys?
I picked out my ring with FH.. and I picked EXACTLY the setting.. stone.. everything I wanted.. so I am not in a situation like this.. but I would be mad. I feel like we shouldn't lie to eachother.. especially about trivial dumb things like that.

I would be upset if he lied at all---if it was over the store, but the quality was the same, I would get over it But if he made the quality a lie--i would be more angry---not cause the ring is not what I expected it--but why he felt the need to lie in the first place

Wow, you packed a lot into one post!! Did he lie because I had to have a Tiffany/Cartier ring? Or did he lie because he had to give me a Tiffany/Cartier ring? Let's be adults, he is going to lie you at some point. Whether it's about him finishing the dishes or what he watched on tv or where he brought your ring. I guess you just have to pick your battles, would you rather he lied about the $$$ of something or the feelings that compelled him to propose in the 1st place?
Disclaimer: mine was bought at auction for $212.

I would be upset with the fact that my fh felt it necessary to make something up about where he purchased my ring.
That makes me think that he sees me as a person who cares about stuff like that and that is what would hurt me more than anything

No I wouldn't be mad. My FH said he bought my ring from Tiffany's and I go there every month to get it cleaned and looked at. If by chance he just bought the insurance from them to trick me, I would giggle that he went to such an extreme for a lie. But I really could care less where he bought it, or even if it were a fake, I love him and thats all that matters to me!

I would be upset if lied about where and the quality of the stone. Whether he upgraded OR downgraded in either in the lie.
Why lie? If FH felt he needed to lie about something like then I don't think he should have been buying a ring for me.
Yes lies are going to be told, and that I get but where you got a ring and how much you spent -- not a good way to start off a life together.

I TOTALLY agree.. of course I understand lies are going to be told.. but there is a difference between lying to spare my feelings about something.. or something like that... and lying to 'impress' me or others by saying that a ring came from somewhere else.

I'd be upset that he felt the need to lie about something so minor. I wouldn't be upset that my ring wasn't from tiffany's

I would be PO. I would feel betrayed because he felt he had to lie to me. Its unimportant where it came from but if he felt the need to lie about it then i would think that our relationship isnt as strong as i would have thought

I'll answer my own question. I'd be mad. I'd be mad that he lied, and I'd know right away and probably call him out on it.
I'd be mad because he felt he needed to lie to me about something as important as an engagement ring. It's not the ring itself, but it's what it stands for and I wouldn't want it to be associated with a lie. Yes, it's the thought that counts -- and that's why I wouldn't want FH to think I'd only be saying yes because of a name-brand ring.
I'd call him out on it because know a lot about jewelry and would be able to distinguish between a Tiffany's ring and a non-Tiffany's ring in a second. I wouldn't be able to pretend I didn't notice, because every time I'd look at my ring it would be a reminder of FH's lie. That would probably be a baaaad situation LOL
My ring is Tiffany-style (6 prongs, low setting, knife-edge band) but it's noticably different from the pic above (I have a few pix of my e-ring in my album).
Then again I do have a friend who says she won't say 'yes' unless a guy proposes with a ring from Harry Winston, so I can see why a guy might feel like he has no other choice but to lie... but there are definitely underlying problems in that situation....

I would be upset if he lied to me and for also thinking he needs to impress me by saying it's from a name store.

I had a friend tell people her ring was from Tiffany and then later on said it was Harry Winston

No offense to anyone and I know Tiffany rings are expensive and beautiful but I have seen 100 rings that I like better than any Tiffany ring including my own. If someone cares that much about where their ring was purchased I feel sorry for them because they are lacking self confidence in other major areas obviously

Well said. When I first saw my ring it was in a Tiffany's showcase (we were there buying a gift) and I told my FH right there and then this is what I want but NOT from here. I love Tiffany Jewelery but there was no need to pay the mark up on diamond!

FH knows Im FARRRRR from materialistic so I doubt he would ever feel he'd have to lie about something like that. If he ever thought he had to lie to me about something like that, I wouldnt be angry, Id be more disappointed cause it would make me feel like he thinks Im a shallow person for caring that my ring wasnt from a name brand store.
