Ok, you know if *I* think someone's going too far, they probably are.
My friend just IMs me with an important question. He's all pissed off. They bought some guy a wedding gift that included a loofah (like for shower gel or whatever), and someone called it a 'poof' and he said that was SO ignorant of them, b/c it's 'not even the proper word' and moreover, it's a word used to derogatorily describe a homosexual person in some parts of the english speaking world.
I was like 'um..it's poofy, like a cloud.....british people call ciagrettes fags, and they're not offending anyone'
I'm trying to see where this guy is coming from, can anyone help me out? Right now I', just laughing, which isn't nice....but...wow..

I think that to be nit-picky, a loofah is different than a shower poof in what it is made of, but gee, not something to get worked up about.

Did you friend and his gf buy this gift for another couple? Maybe he is being so sensitive about it because he didn't know what it was until his gf told him and he was made to feel stupid and now someone else doesn't know the real name for it and he is giving you the attitude his gf gave him 'how could anyone NOT know what a loofah is?' blah, blah, blah

Well, a loofah & a poofy are 2 different things!
I wouldn't be offened though. DH just calls them all 'loofies' or 'scrubbies'
ETA- Just saw Bri posted the same thing! SHe's right! Send the pics to your friend & ask which kind he gave them. Loofah: ( comes from a type of gourd)

I don't know if it was a loofah or a bath poufy thing...He called it a 'loompha' LOL..it's besides the point. I think he must have been having a bad day. The impression ig tot was someone referred to it 'oh the poof we got for joe smith'...
I ddin't know there was a difference between a loofah and a bath poof. thought it was all the same..never had either..
