Someone bought you a birthday present off of your wedding registry? My FSIL bought me my flatware for my birthday. I was confused. And it's not like she doesn't know me well enough to know what to get me. I just think that's weird.

Not me! I used peoples registries for Christmas, birthdays and anniversarys! I know that people don't get everything on their registry so I try to find out what they want most off of it and buy that for them. People bought me stuff off my registry for Christmas and I LOVED IT!

She probably just wanted to get you something she knew you wanted. I'd be happy to get things from my registry. I understand how you might be offended, but I'm sure she meant only the best.

I wouldn't be offended, but I understand why you question it. I'm not one that likes getting house gifts for my birthday. For christmas, as a joint gift to both of us, fine. For our anniversary, great. But my birthday is all about ME.

I guess I can look at it as one more person who has to give me $$$ for the wedding. Haha, I'm bad.

Actually I don't think it is unusual at all. She probably figured if you have these things on your registry it is because you really want them. She probably thought you would be happy to being closer to having your registry finished!
Maybe it is not unusual to me - b/c many of my friends had family members who bought them place settings of their flatware for easter, christmas, birthday etc - (at 290$ a setting) this was the only way that they would finish their set.

It's actually good because there are a lot of things that won't be finished from your registry. My mom actually just completed my china registry for my birthday!!!

No, I'd be very very grateful. Everything on the registry was something I needed and wanted! I think that was very considerate of her -- she wanted to give you what you wanted most.

Re: Would you be offended if...
I registered about 6 months before my wedding after both of our birthdays and Christmas. You just know that they wouldn't by the guy a gift from the registry, right? Personally, I don't like to buy things off of a registry for anything but a shower before someone's wedding.
On the other hand, you see where people are coming from (all said above) so I totally wouldn't be upset and understand why she did it and would be grateful. Just not my personal choice.

FH would definitely be upset...he got annoyed when his family suggested buying from our registry for Christmas...but personally, I wouldn't mind b/c I chose all those things because I want them!

Re: Would you be offended if...
I think the only reason I was a little aggravated had nothing to do with her. See, my mom claims it is bad luck to use anything off of your registry until you are married, so I can't even use what she bought me for like 2 years! But then again, it IS the thought that counts, and I love her, so it's ok

I wouldn't be...it actually shows she wanted to get you something that YOU wanted and could use!

I think it is a great idea, because you probably will not get everying off your registry and at least she knew it was something you wanted.

Not at all....in fact people are still buying me stuff from my registry as home warming, christimas, birthday gifts, etc.
In fact I think she was being very thoughtful and sincere to get you something she def. knows that you want and need.
