Would you be pissed at this comment????

My friend knows that FH and I have two dogs, both black pugs . . .

So we're together this weekend and see a fawn pug (the tan ones with a black face, which are more common than the black pugs) and she says 'I'm sorry, but the tan ones are so much cuter than the black ones.'

I'm like 'ummm, thank you for insulting my dogs'...

How would she like if I said to her (someday if she ever has a child) . .. You know, I'm sorry, but to be honest, Jennifer's daughter's hair is so much prettier than your daughter's hair???

I'm a dog person and honestly, I would not care if someone said that. Your dogs ARE adorable but she thinks the tan ones are cuter, no biggie...IMO

I would be upset too, but like someone else mentioned... some people aren't dog fanatics like us... so thye don't understand how that could possibly hurt your feelings... Don't be upset because the next person might say that the black ones are cuter than the brown... it's all a matter of opinion... overall that was a stupid comment, but take it with a grain of salt...

Yea, I'm not really upset that she thinks my dogs aren't as cute as fawn pugs - what do I care about that aspect of it - I think my black pugs are gorgeous, and I think fawn pugs are gorgeous too. Obviously we chose black pugs for ourselves, but that is a personal choice...

What really IRKS me the most, is that she would have the AUDACITY to state that opinion out loud. I mean, it's just RUDE and unnecessary. It would be like insulting someone's child. Like, if someone called my child ugly, I'd know they're not ugly, but I'd still be really upset that my own 'friend' would make the comment!

It's definitely a 'dog person' thing I think!!!

thanks for the

You are right, it is a dog perosn thing. At the risk of getting severely flamed for this, I don't have dogs and I don't see treating a child and a dog as the same thing. I would never make a negative comment about a child to a parent like calling them ugly. I may not be so sensitive when it comes to animals. Does that make me insensitive? Maybe. But I just don't equate pets with children, sorry.

I understand where you're coming from because my best friend is the same way. She not only hates pets and people who 'baby' their pets, but she hates my pet...whom I love more than anything in the world. It annoys her that I love him, that he gets sick and I worry about him, that he has conditions that humans also get (she blames this on me, maybe my baby-ing has made him have colitis? )
No, they're not children...but until you have a pet you won't understand why those who do cherish the unconditional love and affection they get from the cutest members of their families. My cat is an animal, but he's very much a part of my family and when I do have kids I won't love my cat any less...yes, the love between humans is different, that's without a doubt. But again, the bond between owner and pet can't be explained...you can't explain feeling.

12-3Princess, to answer your original question, yes that was very rude and insensitive. I am often asked why I chose a 'mean looking cat who always looks angry'...yeah, how do you answer that? You don't - people are stupid.

Sorry your friend lacts tact.

And for the record, my 'mean looking cat' is the sweetest, most affectionate baby in the world and to me he always looks happy.

I wasn't assuming that you hate pets. I clearly wrote 'She not only hates pets ...' when referring to my best friend. I think it was clear that she hates pets...but I apologize if you felt I was saying that about you.

Not everyone (you included, this is where I mention you ) get the fact that people love their pets so much that someone's comments could actually hurt them.
Just like you wouldn't call your friend's kid ugly or say 'maybe orthodontia should be in the future' you don't criticize pet's appearances. Why? Because that's the way the pet looks, you can't change that, they were born that way...but braces, now that's another story.
