Would you be PO'ed

Original post by ErinC0119

if your FIL's bought a new truck and only gave you $1000 for your rehearsal dinner towards your wedding. Yet FH and I and my parents are killing ourselves to pay for this wedding.
I am so mad!!
Yet they ask me if I can add more people to the list....uh yea NO!

its their money and they can do whatever they want with it.

sometimes you just can't watch what others are spending and saying 'why aren't WE getting more of your money?'

I agree. I wouldn't like people telling me how to spend my money. It was your choice to have the type of wedding you can afford. It's not up to them to finance it.

Yeah, id be mad. I understand if they didnt have the money but to have the money and not contribute to your child's wedding whether its your son or your daughter, it really shouldnt depend on the sex of your child, is just not right. JMO

If they complain about having no money, then spend it frivolously on things like trucks, casinos, etc....then YES, I'd be mad that you're obviously being lied to. At least that's MY case.

No I wouldn't. My FH & I are paying for 100% of the wedding. It's our wedding, not theirs. Our families aren't obligated to help us.

I would totally be pissed off!! Ugh!! What can you do though? Try your best to let it go... don't let it ruin your happy thoughts about your upcoming day! Just definitely say NO to any more invites for them!!

Tell them they can invite more people, but they'll have to sit in the truck!

Re: Would you be PO'ed

mine spent $400,000 on a house that they are trying to flip & sell - they currently own 3 houses - one that they live in - before this purchase. They bought this fixer-upper knowing that both my sister and I are getting married in the same year. And my mom tells me she can't give my FH and I any money towards our wedding, but she paid for half of my sister's. Granted, my sister needed the money more than I do & I'm glad my mom could help her, but if I could have some help from my mom's end it would be much appreciated and appropriate IMO. From what it sounds my mom won't be giving us anything let alone $1000. I had hoped for $5000 at least to pay for the photographer or something. It's crappy IMO. Buying that house was really poor timing and not necessary... but whatcha gonna do, it's their money and their life

I'm with the girls who said that neither your parents nor your inlaws are obligated to give you any money. In my experience, parents and inlaws have worked hard all their lives, and are entitled to do nice things for themselves as they get older. I was very grateful for any money that we recieved, and it did not cross my mind to become angry with our parents for not giving us more money.

In the back of my mind I'd probably be a little sad that they weren't more generous with us, if they could have afforded to be. But, I'd still be grateful for the 1,000 for the rehearsal dinner which is more than a lot of parents contribute!

No, I wouldn't be pissed. If you don't expect to get anything you won't be disapointed. Think of whatever you get as an added bonus
