DH and I are in a bit of a financial situation which is really a long story. Needless to say his fault but not worth discussing. Anyhow, I was working 3 days a week for 4hours a night. I was also going to school during the day. DH was working 5 days a week and we had plenty of time together and with the kids still. Well now he works 5-6nights a week(one day he works from 6am to 12am). Needless to say we never see each other anymore and we are both burning out. Okay now for the upset part.... Tommorow is Valentines day and not a day he is scheduled to work during the day and we both work tommorow night. Well he calls me at work to tell me that he volunteered tommorow to work 6am - 12am. Are you kidding on v-day of all days? It's not bad enough that we would only have a few hours together anyhow but you volunteer not to be here at all!!!!!! I just cant believe this and Im fuming. I couldnt even say anything to him. I know if anything he'll leave me a card and flowers on the table but that's not what I want! I feel like this whole week has been nothing but time to vent over aggravation.

I would be infuriated too. But guys look at things differently...he probably sees this as an opportune time to make a few extra bucks and of course, like a typical male, completely overlooks the fact that it's Valentine's Day!
Maybe he bought you something really nice that he needs to pay for!

Agree with the making money part - most men like to to know they're taking care of things - especially if the financial sit is partially his fault - he wants to make amends and secure a future for you and your fam... Most men don't realize that quality time is sometimes better than financial security...

I would be mad too But you can celebrate it any day. My FH is working tonight. I won't see him at all because he works night and he got home this morning and he will sleep until he has to go to work. We are going to celebrate it Friday. Try not to get upset. I know it's hard but you can celebrate it another day.

Re: Would you be upset....
I can totally understand how you're mad, but, guys just don' t think that way. He obvioulsy saw this as an opportunity to make a bunch of money that you need. Someone on another board was talking about how there are several different ways that people show love. He's showing love by trying to be responsible and take care of this situation that he created. It's not as if he's spendiing the day skiing with his buddies or someting, he's working. ALL day. I'm sure he would rather not work, but obviously he feels he has to.
So, don't be too hard on him. He IS making an effort. It's just not the effort you want.
And Happy Valentines Day!

my FH is also out of town of business. In the past I would get very mad, however, we are planning a wedding, and renovating a house we just bought. I have to look at the big picture and see he loves, he cares and he wants the same, and if he could be home, he would be home. I am sure the same is for your FH, if he could be with you he WOULD be with you. You are a women and as one, we are allowed to vent and feel sad, just don't attack him!

Re: Would you be upset....
Thanks girls When he came in last night I told him that it bothered me that he didnt even ask if it would bother me if he worked. As far as a great gift, yeah okay DH hardly ever gets me anything on holidays and always uses the excuse oh well I didnt think we could afford gifts this year. Yeah this has been going on for atleast 5yrs that every year we cant afford birthday, xmas, v-day or anything else. Not even dinner unless I flip that once again I managed to save for a gift and get squat in return. Then all of the sudden at 9pm(after I've flipped)I get well see I was planning on taking you to dinner. Yeah okay at 9pm, right and if you could afford to take me to dinner then how about a card buddy or a small gift? It's just infuriating. But it helps to have you guys.

I don't think I would be to mad since he is working to alleviate a financial problem.
He is doing the right thing.

agreed i would cut hiim some slack i mean he is working a long day to make money since you're in a bindn thats just my opinion then again we dont do v-day because its too comercial id rather have a nice dinner or get a gift or card because he wants to do that rather than because he feels we have to bc hallmark tells us so again just my opinion

Re: Would you be upset....
I would be a lil bit upset for the time we are not spending together...but I understand the opportunity to make more $$.... as for us...we both have to work and with our crazy schedules we will just do something over the weekend I guess.....IMO v-day is just a money making scheme...who needs that when you should show your love everyday not just on 2-14
