Ok girls I want your thoughts on this. . . Sorry a little long. Here it is. Ok we set our date two weeks after we got engaged. FMIL is retiring this year, actually the day before our wedding. So about a month after much drama on her part with the guest list we find out that they are having a retirement party wednesday(June 24th) right b4 the wedding(June 27th). Ok so I got annoyed because all their family is from out of state and they are coming in now for the retirement party. Then the next night is the rehearsal dinner. So I'm thinking this is to much, I have alot that I will have to do that week, so I decided I'm not going to the retirement party. Today I get an email from his Uncle's girlfriend saying I nknow you were annoyed about the reitrement party but I need your help with something I need you to get me a list because I want to have a 40th birthday party for Scott(FH's Uncle) on Sunday after your wedding. So I thought are you kidding me!! Then I'm thinking FH's cousin is graduating college this semester so his Aunt and Uncle are probably going to have the graduation party (which leaves friday night) that weekend because the family is in town. So I lost it! I'm just so done. So FH calls his mom talks to her and tells her I'm a lil upset and she said so what it's after or b4 wedding and thinks it's selfish of us to think this way. I'm sorry I don't think I'm being selfish. At this point I feel like our wedding isnt' special anymore and really feel like rescheduling/canceling it! What do you girls think?

I think your family is being absolutely ridiculous. Or rather, FH's family. I can't believe that your FMIL thinks that the two of you are being SELFISH for looking out for your relatives. . .making sure that they're not partied out. I understand that since they're all going to be in town, they might as well get the most of it. . .but they're in town for YOUR WEDDING. I think I would just about throw down a **** fit if something like that was done to me.

WOW, I would definitely be upset. I mean I understand that they are throwing these parties around your wedding day because the family will be in for your wedding...but still!! I would probably flip. I can see how you would feel that your wedding is getting lost in the shuffle among all these parties. Doesn't his family realize that planning a wedding is very stressful and you are going to be busy with stuff? I am so sorry you are going through this. Hopefully his family can see the light and come around.

Besides, the whole family doesn't have to go to the retirement party. Most retirement parties I've been to only involve colleagues, retired/past colleagues, and immediate family (significant other, parents if they're still around and/or children). Why does the WHOLE FAMILY have to go?
Sorry, but it just irks the hell out of me!!!

I have to say I dont get upset often and even I would be so pissed. That is not okay. That weekend should be yours. There is a whole summer to plan a party. You still are better of just going to the party and being the 'better more mature' person. Trust me Karma always strikes! Feel better and don't stress it. Just know they will get theirs!

wow thats ALOT going on all in one weekend. I see his family's point in doing all while everyone is in town but Not on your wedding weekend. That should be a celebration all in its own. I would def be upset too. What does FH say?

Re: Would you be upset
Why do you have to put a list together for the girlfriend to throw a party? That is a bit weird and added pressure.
A party on the day after your wedding could be nice. A day to recap the events of the wedding. I know its not ideal but think about the let down of having the wedding and then nothing the next day. Maybe thats just me... I love parties. If you can't beat em, join em.

Re: Would you be upset
wow this really stinks, unfortunately it's like they are using your wedding as a one stop shop for all the parties they need to have. is it too late to elope?? jk i hope you make it through it.
i think it's something about june that attracts parties, just a personal observation

Is there any way that they can host the retirement party the day after your wedding? Maybe your FH can bring it up to his family. The week of the wedding is full of so much running around that neither you nor FH will have the time to entertain people in another event.
Good luck.

Don't worry....your party will be the best, by farrrrrrr!!! Everything will turn out fine, you are still the main event : ), that is the reason everyone is going to be in town in the first place.

I think you should tell these people to give your friend 'NOVIA09' a call. I'll straighten them out on your behalf..
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? OMG, my family (and his) know better than to pull some crap like that... Oooooooooh I'm so mad FOR YOU...
Give the girlfriend a list of names, starting with Herman Munster.. 1313 Mockingbird lane.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Re: Would you be upset
Do they realize the craziness that goes on the week of the wedding. I don't think they even thought about that and will be very surprised. why would they want so many events one after another. Even as a guest, why would they set it up so that they are attending a party everyday for like 4 days straight And its not just stressful for the bride but a lot going on for the parents of the couple too. My mom took off the week of my wedding

Ohh no his mother has no idea, getting a final guest list was a nightmare and she had like 150 people that she was originally inviting and I was like uhh that's the whole budget so she cut down and has to pay for her extras. She just doesnt't get it!!! I hope this comes back to her when her 19 old daughter is ready to get married someday.

No because her 'co-workers' are throwing her this party at Villa lombardi's which is extremely generous of them. Part of me doesn't believe that they are throwing it for her. She said that's the only time because after our wedding date alot of the teachers go away and won't be around for a retirement party.
