A pretty close friend from work (socialize alone outside of work many times, went to Fire Island together) knowingly will miss your wedding b/c she booked a vacation the weekend of your wedding. FH says who cares, but it upsets me that someone I thought was a friend (even if we started out as co-workers 2.5 yrs ago) would do that. I just rather not have anything really to do w/her other than work from now on. Since everyone here is either a bride-to-be or a recent one, I'd love your thoughts. TIA!

I would be upset because she was seems unfazed that she will be missng your wedding. If she was a close friend or even cared about your wedding she would cancel the vacation to be there for her friend's special day..
boo for her

She never even apologized and I had to basically come to her because I saw in the vacation log that she was going away around the time of my wedding. In addition to just booking a vacation around my wedding, she didn't even have the decency to come to me or apologize. It's hurtful.

I would be upset because I wouldn't be able to share my day with them...but at the same time, was this vacation booked before you picked a date? How much would it cost for her to cancel her vacation? I have experience with having to postpone/cancel plane tickets and its highway robbery...you lose all of your money. She could be out hundreds of dollars if she cancels. Just something to think about...
...if she booked it after she knew about your date though, yeah I'd be pissed.

I had the same problme with actually three people who I thought we were friends and good ones at that. I have not made the effort I use to since my wedding. I think you have all the right to be mad and not go out of your way! Good luck!

She's known about my date for almost a year b/c we're close enough that I shared this with her. She definitely did it anyway and it's just kind of hurtful that a friend who do that. We're not best friends, but I thought we were close enough.

She's a selfish jerk, don't talk to her again ...unless you have to. With friends like that who needs enemies

Re: Would you be upset?
I hate to say it, but she's your coworker...example: One of my coworkers just moved to FL before her wedding (will be coming back up for it) and I thought we were decent friends, she would come over our apartment for bbq's, we went shopping yadda yadda...But the girl is an incredibly selfish girl, I tell her I cant make it to her wedding bc my grandparents are ill and I need to go visit them, I am terribly sorry for it. She then proceeds to give attitude and tell me off...all bc i have to take care of family business...Can we say selfish? Even though you think she is a friend, she still obviously has her own priorities and doesnt care about anything other than that. Be thankful you found this all out sooner than later...(sorry if this sounds harsh in anyway)

This is totally different...she's a jerk and you don't need a poisonous person like that in your life. I'd just chalk it up to some people are fake and move on....sorry you are going through this.

I don't know this girl, but it seems like everyone is coming down awfully hard on her.
Presumably, she's not going on vacation solo. Maybe that time was the only time her traveling companion(s) could go.
I understand that you're hurt that she won't be at your wedding, but these things happen. I had to miss a good friend's wedding because of a schedule conflict. Thankfully, she didn't take it as a personal afront and we're still good friends.

Well, part of my upsetment is the fact that she never even came to me or discussed it with me. No apology, nothing. I caught her in a lie and I matter of factly told her so. If it was a conflict or she really wanted to go on this trip and came to me to explain, I would def be less hurt if that makes sense.

Did she think she wouldn't be invited? Is it possible she is absent minded and didn't even realize it?
Whatever, I wouldn't let it cause drama at the office. Yes, you have a right to be hurt, but she made her choice. Maybe because it's memorial day she wanted a long weekend away? So, you save by having less people there and maybe she will give you a gift anyway.
Haven't you already sent out invites? Did she not yet reply?

Re: Would you be upset?
I would be disappointed, but I realize that although my wedding is the most important day in my life, its not the most important day in the lives of my friends and family. I want them to be with me, but I understand that they have lives and other priorities.
I noticed you are getting married on a holiday weekend - I would expect a lot of no's that weekend. People like to take advantage of the day off of work and plan trips that they can't take on other weekends.
I understand you want all of your friends there, and your affair will be beautiful no matter what!

ITA. The day is about you and FH, it's one less plate to pay for. Those who truly make the effort will be there. That's all you need!

Dude, i'd be totally hurt as well. You have every right to be, especially since she knew about your wedding date and you are close enough where you hang out outside of work that you probably shared alot of your wedding details with her. and the fact that you found about her scheudled vacation time on your own is whats really bothering me and feel so sad for you. She should have said something like 'i cant believe that im going to miss your wedding because of vacation plans... im so sorry, i feel so bad, i really wanted to be there' i dont know, thats what i would do.... even if she didnt think she would be invited to the wedding, she still didnt share her vacation plans openly with you, so its like she was hiding it. im sorry you have to go through this!

Thanks. This is exactly it. It's the way she went about it that hurt me. She knew she was invited to my wedding, she'd talk about it until a couple of months ago. I kind of knew something was up and saw she was taking days off around that day and saw someone post on her facebook wall about Cancun. She didn't tell me upfront. Oh well, her loss not mine.

Re: Would you be upset?
This is me being me... (outside of work) talk to her. 'You do realize you're taking a vacation the weekend of my wedding right? I was hoping you'd be there'
Then she'll give you her answer and you take it from there. HAVE you talked to her about it? I see you said you caught her in a lie. Maybe she took off to attend your wedding or maybe help you or maybe she has a family thing to attend to. I'd talk to her before dismissing her. But if I wasn't satisfied with her answer, I'd prob. flip out on her. Again, that's just me.

Agreed...Would be upset. There was no reason to do that, really! Yeah, I would be hurt and feel like she took our friendship much more lightly than I did and from here on out would only be 'work friends'. now you know, take it as a lesson of who she is. I am sorry though

I would be upset...but in the end you are going to have like 100 other people there who WANT to be there. I would rather this then 2 people who really dont want to be there. People have their own priorities. Learn from this...I woudnt go out of my way for her.

I wouldnt take it personally..i think the fact that your wedding falls on a holiday weekend is why that happened....
