Re: Would you be upset if you and your gf discussed baby names..

no way girlie! baby names are something personal especially if you spell it differently or it has some meaning to you.
Someone (Who wasnt even engaged) asked my sister if they can have the name Massimo when they had kids one day. (mind you, it was like a week before my sisters due date!) Well its my nephew's name and my sister told her where to stick it
People have SOME NERVE !

I have a few names chosen, like Luciano is one of my favorites for a boy, and Luciana if its a girl, (and Lucia is my twin sisters name and I will use her name somehow in the babys name if its a girl (my first niece and Goddaughter has my name as a middle name) so it means all the more to me. (and not to mention Im Anna, so it really combines both of our names, but I like Luciana better with one N)
well my advice going fwd, is either
A) you tell no one and keep it to yourself.
(which i cant do! )
or
B) Tell so many people that they know it's 'your name'.
My SIL's 'girl name' for years has been Gianna and I would never even THINK of using it...

Im so sorry your friend did that.
sorry i babbled

No, don't apologize for babbling, you are SOO right!! It soo pissed me off.. I NEVER tell anyone my baby names b/c I knew something like this would happen..the one day I actually tell someone, someone I've know for over 15 years, has a baby and names the baby the name I've always loved.. I used to call my doll isabella! dangit. I am going to make it clear.. It would truly piss me off if I did get preggo, have a baby that I named Isabella (which I intend on doing regardless) and someone telling me I copied her!

I would be pissed. Isabella is an extremely popular name right now but if I had a good friend tell me that they loved that name, I'd avoid it. There are only 20,000 other names out there...

My SIL & I were preggo at the same time and I called dibs on the name Luke right from the get-go.

I'd be a bit upset. Especially if it's a name that she knows you adore. If my friend took my girl name from me I would be FURIOUS!!!!

See that is why I am not going to tell anyone on here that I am naming my baby peekshures, b/c I know one of yall would steal it from me

Marcella, I feel you girl, not right at all, of all the name in the world she convienently chooses the one you like...make up some ole fugly name next time and let her steal it.

A girl in my chuch just named her baby Isabell, such a pretty name

That's just mean. I would be pretty annoyed.

A friend of mine mentioned a name that she liked, but it so happened I was preggers first. I loved the name she mentioned, but since she came up with it, she gets to keep it, for her child.

There are over a million names on this globe to chose from, and they cannot find one other they like?

Frankie's sister took almost all the names that I loved, but since they had all their kids before we started dating I can't complain (plus there are 10 of them so it was bound to happen) but I would be furious!!

Sometimes it happens, and people don't really mean to hurt anyone. I would be upset if you think she got the idea from you, but the truth is...it's her kid and she can name it whatever she wants to! BUT, I totally think that you should still name your daughter Isabella if you really, really love it!

Tangent....when I was preggers w/Paul, Jeff and I decided that we loved Isabella for a little girl too. We were considering Emma and Isabella together...and left it open ended...then one day, we were at the park and we were admiring a couple with their two beautiful children...the Mom was talking to the little girl and called her, 'Isabella' and Jeff and I just looked at each other and smiled. We LOVED the way the name sounded when someone else was saying it! So, it was sealed that if we had a little girl, she'd be Isabella Rae, but we'd call her 'Bella' (means beautiful in Italian) for short.
Obviously, we had Paul However, less than a year after Paul was born, one of my first cousins became pregnant and started announcing to the family that if she has a little girl, she was going to call her Isabella This truly upset me b/c I really want to name a daughter that, and felt that I couldn't if my cousin already used the name. But, I also didn't feel like I could 'call dibs' on a name when I wasn't even preggo - after all, it's HER child! What could I have said without sounding like the most selfish person on earth? Thankfully, my cousin is having a BOY!

Claud you can still use the name Isabella - I have 3 nephews named Jack

ETA: Oops I see she is having a boy....

Re: Would you be upset if you and your gf discussed baby names..

I think its worse when its family...DH and I told his cousin (like a sister to him) what our name for our boy is...and she named her daughter the feminine version of it!!!! I was pissed...but at least its not the male version...

if anyone takes our girl name I will kill...since its a combination of our moms names...they would look foolish!!!

although my cousin just named her son John (after her husbands uncle who had just passed away)...but I feel that we can still use John...considering it is DH's name...(I want to use it as middle)

If we were both pregnant at the same time and we were discussing names and I said I love Emory and next thing I know she named her daughter Emory, yes I would be upset....if we were GOOD friends, not just hi-bye type friends. And I would never name my child the same names that my close friends have already named their children.
But honestly if it is a popular name such as Michael or Madison and I was not pregnant I would not call 'dibs' on the name. Truth is, my name decisions have changed often during my pregnancy so what if I called 'that is MY name' and then we decided NOT to use it?

I would not make a big deal about it. If you want, still name your child that name. Is it worth a fight with a friend over?

this drives me nuts. personally. isabella is super popular right now so expect lots of people to be using it. it's on my list as well, although my friends are all chomping at the bit for it. i would be angry - especially if you two had spoken of it regularly. This happens though - and your Isabella will be YOUR Isabella.
