OMG pissed would not even begin to cover the way I would feel, especially if the name is one you always dreamed of naming your child

My BIL & SIL are expecting her 3rd child, and it's going to be a girl.
We've always planned on naming our child after my late MIL if it's a girl. Well, now they are talking about, after passing it up for their first daughter
But it means a lot to us to use the name so we're going to use regardless. And if that's the name you have your heart set on, then I would use it anyway, and not even bother bringing it up with your friend. It's not like she's going to change her babies name now, so it's a done deal.

If the person was a very close friend, yes, I'd be upset. I love the name Isabella and would nickname my child Bella, like Claud said. Rob and I shared this name with my family already. But right now, the name is so very popular, that I don't even know if I would use it, even though I love it. That's beside the point. If it was me, I'd have to say that it is hard to claim a name, especially if I don't know if I'll be blessed with a girl and especially if it's not representing something more than just loving the name. Although I would be very upset and disappointed.
If I was really determined to use the name, I'd use it anyway and let my friend know it.

I would be upset for sure. It's really a tough situation to be in. If you really want to name your daughter Isabella (which is a beautiful name) you should. When you see your friend I would tell her right off the bat that that's the name you want for your daughter too! This way it's out in the air right away.

Sometimes it happens, and people don't really mean to hurt anyone. I would be upset if you think she got the idea from you, but the truth is...it's her kid and she can name it whatever she wants to! BUT, I totally think that you should still name your daughter Isabella if you really, really love it!
Tangent....when I was preggers w/Paul, Jeff and I decided that we loved Isabella for a little girl too. We were considering Emma and Isabella together...and left it open ended...then one day, we were at the park and we were admiring a couple with their two beautiful children...the Mom was talking to the little girl and called her, 'Isabella' and Jeff and I just looked at each other and smiled. We LOVED the way the name sounded when someone else was saying it! So, it was sealed that if we had a little girl, she'd be Isabella Rae, but we'd call her 'Bella' (means beautiful in Italian) for short. Obviously, we had Paul However, less than a year after Paul was born, one of my first cousins became pregnant and started announcing to the family that if she has a little girl, she was going to call her Isabella This truly upset me b/c I really want to name a daughter that, and felt that I couldn't if my cousin already used the name. But, I also didn't feel like I could 'call dibs' on a name when I wasn't even preggo - after all, it's HER child! What could I have said without sounding like the most selfish person on earth? Thankfully, my cousin is having a BOY!
Claud I agree with you 100000% and I plan on nicknaming my daughter, if I have a daughter, Bella.. I just love the way it sounds..
regardless of anything, I plan on naming my daughter, if God allows me the opporunity to have a daughter (for all I know he has plans on me only having 4 sons! ), I will still name her Isabella.. don't really care what anyone thinks.. =)
thanks for your thoughts ladies!

Marcella, this was a Sex and The City episode, it happened to Charlotte! I would be VERY pissed off. Especially if it's something unique you know? You're validated.
BTW, I have always wanted a Bella, we can never meet.

My nieces name is Isabella Grace and we call her Bella!! I love the name and now its becoming very popular!
You are not being childish...a name is something very personal and once you have your mind made up...its hard to go to something else!!
How are you?? Is there something you want to tell us???

I would definately be upset!!! I loved the name Amanda for when I have a girl and everyone in my family knows it. My cousin had a baby girl a few months back and used Amanda. She did ask me first if it was ok, but what I was I going to say...no? So I said no problem but it still bothers me. There are so many names out there why do people have to steal yours???

I have had my boy's name picked since I was 16 years old (Luke), only to discover FH's nephew's name is Lucas - and of course, they call him Luke for short so I'm beat and it makes me sad but what can I do? But my girlfriends all know my baby names and I would totally be pissed if one of them used them - but most of them have kids already so no worries.
Here's a story for you - when my dad got married, one of his sisters ran out and got married a few months later (they knew each other a month!). Then 2 years later my mom got pregnant, and 3 months later, the same aunt got pregnant. When talking about baby names, my mom told my grandmother she liked the name Daniel for a boy - well, of course since my aunt has spent her life copying my dad, what do you think she named her son?? The kicker is my mom and this aunt have always hated each other and my mom always laughs that she named my aunt's son...

For all the Isabella lovers...
Dh's family has a family name of Isabel - 83 year old grandma...aunts...cousins...nieces...
and they all use 'Isa' (Eesa) for short...I love it...if so many people weren't named it in the family...I would want to use it...

1) As far as Isabella...I wanted that name too! Wow I can't believe how popular that name is getting! But my ex-boyfriend told me he named his daughter that (he imed me one day to brag) and now that name is out!!!
2) I would be highly pissed if a friend did that, especially knowing how much it meant to me.
3) This is why I keep baby names to myself. I know it sounds silly but naming your child is such a special thing to me.
