Would you do this to cut costs? (are you superstitious?)

Original post by bluegreen08

If you had the opportunity to buy your wedding ring and FH's wedding ring for half price of anywhere else you'd be able to find it (assume any other rings you'd be able to buy would be double) but they were pre-owned rings from a couple who had divorced, would you buy them to save money?

Re: Would you do this to cut costs? (are you superstitious?)

i was once told by a very very reputable jeweler that most diamonds (or at the least, a lot of them) are old and recertified. Especially odd shapes. The original bling i wanted was a pear with two trillions on the side. I brought an anklet in to a jeweler around me to get fixed, and there it was. this hugenormous pear with two ginormous trillions on the side. I LOVED IT. my heart was racing just looking at it. it was muuuuch bigger then i would ever realistically want but i just HAD to ask about it. it was 10,000. It was set in platinum. It was effing gorgeous. so i was like.........why so cheap? (not cheap, but for that kind of ring....it was def. below cost). She said it belonged to a local client of hers and this woman TRADED IT IN AND UPGRADED lmfao...i can only imagine the monstrosity that is adorning her fingers. but idk...it seemed cheap still, why not resell it for more? i was creeped out that someone else owned it before that i didn't know. an heirloom is different. k thanks for listening to my story haha

I don't believe their bad karma would rub off. I mean think about all the women that get a ring passed down for generations. That's not new. I personally just want my own new ring.

No way!!! There is just no way i could look at my ring and think about the many tears that spilled on that ring or the amount of times that ring got thrown back in someones face lol

I would... If they were nice.... not superstitious like that...
my e ring is pre-owned i can see the faintness of an engraving they tried to buff out... i think that makes it all the more special because I'm sure at one time the love someone felt was overwhelming and tender....

To me, it really depends. If the rings are my dreams rings that I wouldn’t be able to afford any other way, then probably yes.

Then again, in Sweden, I’m explicitly not getting married in this one church, because FMIL and FSIL both got married there, and FSIL is divorced, and FMIL SHOULD be divorced (husband had 5 year affair) so I guess I am superstitious after all.

i dont know, i dont think it really matters.....even if you get a ring custom made you dont know where the stones may have come from - its just that you didnt know that it was someone elses.....we all could have something pre-owned and not even know it!

No way! Actually for both reasons, bad karma and I want my own new rings!

my gfriend had been engaged and was getting married but it fell through. they remain good friends to this day but even though she offered (it wasnt my taste, gorgeous though) I dont think I could have let FH get it. something about that.

But How do we know that the diamonds we have are 'fresh' and not from some ring that was sold and taken apart. That crossed my mind too
