Would you ever complain of a wedding gift to the person who gave you one??

Original post by tray831

Im going to try to put a long story short, but one of the ladies I work with went to a wedding a few weeks ago. Today, she got a phone call from the Brides Father telling her how upset they were that the gift they gave them was very dissappointing. They ended up giving a gift and not cash/check. She got so upset today, she was Hysterical.

The brides father then realized how wrong he and his wife were to even complain, after seeing how upset she got, that they then apologized!

I said to her, I dont know how you're even crying.......I told her she shouldve said 'You got alot of nerve complaining, but if you dont like it, return it' and then hang up.

But not for nothing, how f'n Rude is that???? Would you ever? People dont have a clue how foolish they sound like when they open their mouths without thinking first!

That is just plain RUDE. You never know what people's financial situation is.... maybe she could only afford something off the registry.
It is the tought that counts....

I would have just hung up on that man.

Where do these people come from???

Tell your friend not to cry. Poor dear...

When she got back from the honeymoon she said 'you are from NY you know people give $$ and not gifts. I can't believe you didn't give me $$'.

Then why did she even have a registry?

I would never complain. The person should be grateful that they at least received something.

I just think that's so messed up. You should be grateful for ANY gift and accept it gracefully. Your frineds aren't there to be your own personal savings and loan department. I know it's custom ot give $$, but sometimes I'd rather buy a gift because I feel it's much more personal. People like that don't deserve any gifts. If you really get a gift you don't like, return it if you have to, but still thank the person for their gracious and generous gift. End of story. Some people have no class at all.

Wow, that's so incredibly rude, I can't believe the father actually called to complain about the gift.

F* that!!!! Not all of your guest will give u 'perfect wedding gift.' It's definitely rude and disrespectful that the bride's father had the nerve to actually call that person. People need to realize that when you give a wedding, it's because u want to share a special occasion in your life and should not expect so much in return.

Well, I can sympathize with brides/grooms feeling sad about a gift...I had a couple bring their adult son, who was not invited. For a gift, they gave me $65. But, NO, I would NEVER dream of saying anything because they are WONDERFUL people.

But, if they weren't so wonderful, I would definitely have expressed some unhappiness about the whole situation...

OMG, I would have told the guy you were sorry and asked him to send it back to you so you could send a better gift and then send nothing, actually maybe send a card with nothing in it saying I hope you like this gift better!!

The Nerve of people!!

Disgustingly rude to do that.

A gift's a gift. I have gone to weddings outside of the metro NY area where monetary gifts mainly come from family. I went to the weddings of different college friends, and I felt funny giving them money, so I gave gifts from the registries.

That was pretty rude. I would never do that even if I really didn't like the gift. I would keep my mouth shut. Now if someone approached me about a gift they didn't like, there would be no shutting me up.

Some people have some nerve.

Empire, that is horrible. I mean, didn't she register for this thing. You think she would be happy because it's obvisouly something she wanted.

That's hilarious. I like sending the empty card with 'I hope you like this gift better.'
