Would you go out with people from work if...

Few people are going out together from work tomorrow, the girl I am friends with is quitting and basically wants to celebrate, but no one else knows that.
She is quitting because the other women we work with are so catty and nitpicky and basically you know whats. They don't know that though.

Would you go out with them, she's begging me and I feel bad, but I REALLY don't want to hang out with these people outside of work--am I being selfish?

Plus I would never feel comfortable...... I don't know what to do.

I really wasnt much for hanging with my co-workers. I saw them enough during the day and couldnt wait to get away from them

Just tell her you appreciate the offer, but you have plans. (they dont have to know if you do or not)

She thinks they aren't as bad out of work, and she wants to hang out with the other guys that are coming along...

The only thing that ****s is that she knows I don't have plans because it was supposed to be just us and the guys then they went and invited the B****

My general rule of thumb: I never do anything I REALLY don't want to do bc it is just not worth it. Unless it is for someone who REALLY needs me there etc. Then I am there in a flash.

Make up some plans with FH! LOL

Quite the conundrum. I guess you could either svck it up and go - leave early (feign a headache or have someone call you with an emergency)...or just tell her that you're not interested now that the biotches are going.

i try not to mix work with pleasure. any friends i have made have never stayed friend. i was laid off back in oct. and they were invited to my wedding in sept. some came, but they don't kit. so my rule is not to socialize.

I met my FH at work...and we socialize with a small group of friends here - so I'm biased. I think it's a great thing. We're in different departments, so maybe that makes it easier/better.

I would either make up an excuse...say my stomach hurts or just go for a quick drink and say I have to meet up with some other people.

I always make it a point to go to some type of gathering - but state that I can only stay for 20mins or half hour - and then RUN!

I would go for a few mins...30-60...then say you are tired...etc

I have made some awsome friends at some jobs...but the last was awful...so I would definitely not want to hang out with those people!!! so I can understand

I agree w/ Yabbobay go out for 1 it's not that big of a commitment & you'll be home only a 1/2 an hour late.
I LOVED going out w/ my work friends on a Friday! It was the best way to unwind!!

If it was Long Island, a totally different story, but working in the city, it takes a lot more than a half hour out of my day

Just when I think I've made up my mind someone else says something that sounds true too.

I would also hate to waste money on being with a lot of people I don't really like, but on the other hand that sounds like a really bad excuse.

Update: Just told her I was final with my decision. I am not interested in seeing these people more than I have to. Even if it means they will spend the whole night talking about me. Who cares what those biotches have to say anyway...

good for you. I have also made some dear friends from jobs ive had, and ive also seen the crowds that i'd rather not hang out with!
beth youre right, why waste your money?
they'll probably drink the night away and then wanna divide the tab (oh no, not this conversation again! )
