Would you hire someone who...

was 2 hours late for the job interview?

If they had a ton of excuses but then interviewed really well and seemed perfect for the job?

Maybe not a if they had a TON of excuses...but one really good one? If they have a ton, they seem to just be grasping at straws. Also, I think it's better to be about 2 hours late than 30 minutes. If it's 2 hours, then something major must've happened.

Retarded logic????

no, probabaly not.

maybe, I'd call them back for a 2nd interview & see if they showed up on time. Depending on the exucse, I may try & verify ( like traffic, I'd see If I cold find out if there really was a major accident or something)

of course, if soemone else came in who was equally as good, but on time, I wouldn't bother with any of that & just hire the prompt person.

HONESTLY - as an HR person, I wouldn't even make the time to interview them. I would have the reception tell them I had a meeting and they should call me.

Unless their train was stuck, something COMPLETELY unavoidable, I'd have no tolerance.

what were the excuses? Sometimes things happen, but that would definitely raise red flags.

Why would you even show up after being 2 hours late?

did they call to say they wil be late? If they called I would consider it, but if they did not have the curtisy to call no.

Missed a train, got off at the wrong stop, took cab, the cab driver was lost and didn't understand English...
But she called a few times updating us on the situation.

well, if she did that well on the interview, I would bring her back and see what happens.

well.....this is tricky. I'd say give her a call, maybe do a phone interview - she sounds flaky though. If i had an interview I would be dam* sure that I gave myself time and directions to get there.

I agree and at firts we wanted to just cancel the interview. But we interview her and she is GREAT! Maybe we should do a second interview. I am not in HR so I don't have much experience with this.

also tricky! when i have people who show up that late for an interview with NO call i send them home. If they call and update and it really wanst their fault and then interviewed well i give them the benefit of the doubt to prove themselves to me. Bring them in for a 2nd round and TRUST YOUR GUT

sometimes people have bad days and it is very unfortunate when it is on an important day... this is why i say if she interviewed so well to bring her in for a second interview...she better be 200% prepared for that one!

this sounds plausible and she did call. don't get rid of her just yet.

I would have to agree with you. But if I was that late, I think I would just turn around and go home.

I missed a train and got lost and was late for an interview, but I called as soon as I knew I missed the train and was able to reschedule.

If the candidate called at the first indication of delay, I would still consider her.

Trains are horrible for those who don't know the schedules, subways can be really confusing too and cabs? Ugh! If she seemed like a good candidate but had some troubles with mass transit, give her a break.

I speak from experience. When someone is lost they are usually not doing it on purpose.

No - that is the cardinal rule

NEVER be late for an interview
unless there were UNAVOIDABLE
circumstances.

did she call from 'the road' to explain, or did she just show 2 hours late with all the excuses...
