would you rather be visited at home or in the hospital
My friend had her baby yesterday and I want to see her and the new baby and I was wondering if its better to wait till she gets home and settled or should I go to the hospital- what do you think? This is really the first friend that has had a baby.

For me and this is just JMO but when I had my daughter I didn't want anyone to visit me in the hospital. I was in St. Catherine's and there are 3 people packed into these small rooms so I just wanted to wait until I got home and could really enjoy their company.

I think you should do what you feel, when one of my closest friends had her first baby, I went to the hospital, looked at the baby, gave the new mom a kiss and told her I'd visit at home. Like the other poster said the room was small, her family was there, but I really wanted her to know I made an effort to go up and see her. For my other friends, I waited until they got home. When I had my son, everyone came to the hospital to visit me, I didn't really mind, I mean obviously I wasn't looking my best but hey they are my friends, they don't care!

I had a private room at stonybrook...and it was packed with friends and family 24/7 but i think our scenerio was different...since we all knew that the baby wasn't coming home with me right away.

For me it was definitely home and after I was home a few days and settled in. I actually didn't like visitors in the hospital, it was too much - I felt like I had to entertain people, clean up and fix myself rather than just take a nap or spend time with my baby esp since my baby couldn't be in my room and visitors couldn't visit him.

Home, unless she has no family visiting her for the whole time she is in the hospital.

I agree with Niecey. I would prefer visitors at home. I was so exhausted after the l&d the last thing I wanted was to feel like I had to get cleaned up and visit with people. Since we don't have any family here, I enjoyed napping when he slept and just spending time with DH and the baby.

It may also depend how long she is going to be in there. I was in for 4 days and I enjoyed having visitors since I had never been in the hospital before and I hated being alone there. But I also like having them at home too!

Re: would you rather be visited at home or in the hospital
that is great to know. When my friends give birth I always feel I should go to hospital, but it is hard to do at times. Most people are only in there 2-3 days, and it is usually only an hr visiting time. But I always thought that they wanted a window full of people looking at their baby. So next time I will just see them at home.

I guess when the time comes, I think I'd like people to come to the hospital. I don't know if I want all these people coming into my home and then feel like I have to entertain them. At the hospital, I'm in a bed and they can come and go as they please. I'll just bring a bag of make-up so I look presentable...

Re: would you rather be visited at home or in the hospital
I went to visit my best friend for a little while on one day just to see her and congratulate her. Then I busted down her door after she went home!
No, seriously, I wanted her to know how much she and the birth of her first child meant to me, so I saw her in the hospital, and then always called to offer help to her at home.

I guess I am in the minority I rather the hospital. Cause people are limited on how long they can stay. When I came home I just wanted quiet time to get adjusted. In the hospital I was overwhelmed with people but when feeding time came they kicked the people out and when visiting hours were over they got kicked out which was great. I liked that they came but I was exhausted. and just over all glad that they came to the hospital. this way the nurse was the bad guy not me

I felt better when they came to the house. I was uncomfortable having all these people see me at my worst.

I enjoyed people coming to visit me at the hospital. I know I wasn't looking my best but it was so nice to have close friends and family around.
ETA: I agree with other people about the hospital limiting time and then not feeling like you have to entertain. It was much more relaxing for me to have them come to the hospital.

I'm with you, t !!!
I agree 100% I had a big room all to myself so even though we had AT LEAST 10-15 people in there each day I didn't mind at all. I didnt feel the need to feed/entertain them and they only had limited time before being kicked out!!!! I heard after I left they made the # of visitors rule alot more strict. I dont know why they let so many people in the room with me
