Would you say this is a good thing or a bad thing? (Poll)
I have been at my job for 6 months now and they have been experimenting with a contest and quotas over the last 3 months. I have no doubt in my mind I have won this contest hands down based on the numbers from the past 2 months & what I've done so far this month.
Because of this, as of Monday they are doubling my work load. I currently handle 4 states, and I will be handling 8. However, to compensate for this they are giving me an assistant so that I don't have to deal with any grunt work.
I'm glad because now I can concentrate on what I do best. But in a way I already feel overwhelmed because I keep thinking HTH am I going to handle it all. And it's not like I'm even getting a raise out of all this.

Maybe they're seeing how you handle it and the raise will come later! I'm sure the hard work will pay off soon! Keep us posted!

I'd say it's mostly a very good thing. If worse comes to worse, and you leave your job, you will be able to talk about this on interviews, explaining that you were given more territory and increased responsibility b/c of your abilities.
But do be careful. I once had a boss who was always asking me why I had so many cases pending. I was being given more cases than anyone, but I was closing out more than anyone. It seems like she only looked at the number pending, which was high b/c I was assigned so many. I don't think she knew how to read the report for the number of cases closed in a month, so instead she looked at how many I had pending.

Good thing if you leverage this to get a raise. You should be compensated and not just with an assistant.

i agree with this. and if they dont offer a raise - by the holidays you'd better ask for one. and your performance backing will totally validate it.

It's def a good thing, Janna!! I think your boss recognizes your abilities and is challenging you so that you stay interested in your job. He/she doesn't want you to become bored with your work and go elsewhere.
Also, they may have some big plans for you like a major promotion but they need to see how well you do with this first.
Congrats!! Good luck!!!

My first thought..... double the workload, still the same pay?
It is a great responsibility and a great pat on the back, but they really need to pay you more.

good - in that it shows they recognize your hard work, and potential for future raise
bad - bigger work load with no raise now and you have to train an assistant (I HATE that).
Good luck - in the long run this is probably a great thing, but it just might take a bit to get to the great part

I would say it's mostly good. However, it's usually a red flag when they give you all of the responsibility without the $$. I would inquire about a raise and plan my future accordingly.
