Would you think this is rude if it happened to you.....

Would you feel just a bit hurt if after you made dinner your guests suggest ordering a pizza pie? The other night DH’s sister, husband and daughter came over so I decided to make vegetable soup and some corn on the cob because my SIL had told me not to go out of my way because her husband and Daughter would not be too hungry because they were going to a big BBQ during the afternoon, So I was like ok “I’ll make something simple.” Well it turned out that the BBQ was not so grand and that they were still hungry so I went through extra trouble to make more of the soup, cutting up the vegetables and then putting in extra noodles. So I made this big pot of soup and they get to my house and have a bowl of soup, which they say was so delicous and then order a pizza pie on top of that and I am stuck with leftovers of this huge pot of soup and also the corn on the cob.

I was so pissed off inside and had to pretend to be all smiles. It was killing me inside! When they left I let DH have it. I think I was more mad at him because he could have mentioned that I had made this huge pot of soup and the corn, maybe support me a little. He said that they didn’t do it intentionally but still I mean don’t you think it’s a little rude to go to somebody’s house and order pizza after they make you dinner. It’s rude any way you look at it. If I go to someone’s house for dinner and if for some reason I am still hungry I’ll eat when I get home. Am I alone here in thinking this way?

It is rude to order a pizza when you are a dinner guest at someone's house.

JMO, I would probably still be hungary after eating a bowl of soup. But at the same time, I would have ordered the pizza at my house or picked something up on the way home.

It was pretty rude to order the pizza from your house. Maybe they didn't want to put you to more trouble?

In all honesty, soup & corn wouldn't fill me up if I didn't eat earlier in the day. BUT I would wait until I left your house before getting something else.

I agree with the others, soup and corn would not fill me up. If I was at relatives, I might feel comfortable enough to order a pizza, especially if we were going to be hanging out all night. She also had a daughter with her that may have been whining that she was hungry....If it was just friends, I never would have suggested pizza, but family is different to me....

That's exactly what I mean. Order it at home not when you are at the person's house. I was told that they wouldn't be hungry much for dinner because of the big BBQ they were going to. I found out that the big BBQ was a bust after I made the soup. I had no time to make anything else. Had I known earlier I could have made more soup.

Like I mentioned before I did make a big pot. It was not small and it was filled with tons of vegetables....and noodles. But I guess everyone's appetite is different.

The daughter was not whining. I don't mind ordering pizza if I didn't cook, but the way I see it is I still went through some trouble and my feelings were still hurt.

I shouldn't have made anything and just gotten extra pizza.

yeah, thats pretty nervy to do.
One time we invited this couple over for dinner. we made this huge meal, then when they arrived we found out they had just had a meal with one of their parents not too long before. so they hardly ate anything! I was pissed! You don't eat before going to someones house for dinner.

I really was hurt and what they did and for DH to actually be the one who picked up the phone and order was the worst!

OOOOooo Men are just dense, and his sister has no manners! He should be punished for his wrong doings! No pizza for a month!!! JUST SOUP! hehe

My MIL & DH Aunt did this after my shower.......and we served food!
So yes, I think it's rude & I can relate. At the time DH was like....'It's no big deal.' but it was a big deal, my mom & sister SLAVED in the kitchen for 2 days preparing all the food!

I don't mean this in a rude way, but had they been drinking at all at the bbq? I know that when you drink you sometimes crave junk food, like pizza.

I totally agree w/Nov04 bride. The comfort level of family allows for these things to happen. I know you worked hard on the soup but try not to take it personally. I am sure that it was not meant to hurt your feelings. I for one enjoy homemade veg. soup with noodles but if my sister was over and then wanted to order out I would break her chops for a while but it would really be o.k. I saw your husband taking some heat on this issue but everyone should remember that is his sister.

I guess it's a good point you made but if you are the one that went through the trouble then all you can see are your feelings hurt after making dinner for them. I don't care if my own mother did it, I still would be pissed.
