My cousin called me and her engagement party is 8/5/07 so she asked hey FMIL to pick up the labels for the favors and her FMIL spelled my cousins name wrong she put Gabriella instead of Gabrielle and when my cousin told her she said well your italian not american .. My cousin WAS SOOO INSULTED she was like that is not my name.. my name is Gabrielle and its my party i should have my own favor with my name spelled correctly ..
would you tell FMIL your making new labels on your own or would you just go out and do it and not tell her and just use the correct spelled labels??

I would be totally pissed!! My name is also Gabrielle and people have been messing up my name my whole life! It actually one of my pet peeves! I would definitely do the labels myself over. People have spelled my name: Gabriel, Gabriella, Gabriela, Gabriele...and my nick name is worse: Gabby, Gaby, Gabbi, Gabbie!! I'm like, people- my name is Gabrielle and Gabi!! That is how they are spelled! No other way! I feel her pain!

sounds to me that her FMIL was just trying to cover her asss and be stubborn and not admit she made a mistake.
nope unfortunately i have discovered that this is a very italian thing! they just dont care about names. . . it is strange to explain!
Great example: my cousin got married in 05 and she put on her invitations Tina Laurella - bc that is her middle name even tho she rarely uses it. So her parents look at the invitation and proofread it and say ok that is perfect send it out.
My cousin gets her birth cert to go get her marriage license and sees that her middle name is spelled Lorella - so this is after the invites are out and she calls her parents screaming and they are like. . . yeah we knew how to spell it but what is the difference it is the same name.
It is like they just don't see the big deal with it. my dad's name is Antonino and on LEGAL DOCUMENTS he will write Anthony and I tried to explain to him he cant do that but he just thinks that bc he is in America he should 'translate' his name to make it easier for everyone!

I like to do things on my own. This way if something went wrong there is noone to blame but yourself. So I would defintly end up doing them over myself. Just so it won't cause problems
