wow..really makes you think...911

i was bored b/c my husband is playing volleyball, so i was browsing the internet to read up on the 911 commissions report- and all of the 911 websites came up. there was a memorial wesbite so i decided to browse on it and look up a friend of my husbands from long beach who died.

there are so many dedications and memorials
and pictures of the men/women who died- even 2 1/2 years later, people are still on there.

there was this one which really touched me and made me sob hysterical... she writes on his memorial page every holiday, every birthday, his 30th, - it just touched my heart.
she just loved him so much....

it just puts things into perspective that life is too short and that we should treasure what we have.

my husband and I have been cranky with each other the past two days and after reading this, i felt horrible.
it really makes you think....

ETA: with time, 9/11 sort of fades, but after reading some of those memorials, i felt like it happened yesterday.

my friend passed away on september 11 and i try and write something on his tribute page on every occasion that meant something to him. i miss him so much.

it really made me apperciate all the things i have in my life and how you could loose them so easily. i think we all need to remember those that were lost that day so that they didnt die in vain. i know somethimes it is hard to talk about but if we dont it will be like pearl harbor where some of our younger generation no nothing about it. i want my children to know that there were wonderful people that were lost that day and there all heros.

We lost quite a few, and quite a few survived.... it is hard for me to see the images & to see my friends' names on memorials and on tribute things. We went to a bike show a couple of months ago & a guy did a 343 bike....we were admiring the quality of the work & the detail of the bike & then we saw our friends name and it suddenly became different..... it scares me a little b/c when you go outside of NY it seems distant already

I feel the same way. I worked one block away from the WTC and that day changed my life in ways I never thought it would. It made me really dig deep within myself and realize that the relationship I was in was unhealthy and was going nowhere and that life is too short to spend it unhappy. So I left (6mnths later) and then I met my husband and we have such a wonderful relationship which I am so grateful for. 9/11 will always be on my mind I don't think I could ever forget it even if I tried and even though it has been almost 3 years I can honestly say that I still regularly think about those who were lost and their families.

this is really true. I was in the orlando airport around thanksgiving of last year, and a teenager was talking (kind of loudly and obnoxiusly) about 911 and he says 'was that three or four years ago' i almost yelled, 'no, it was two years ago and shut your mouth'. i didn't say that, but it made me realize how much closer it is for us than maybe some other people.

Absolutely. I would have said something...
My cousin (born in Brooklyn, recently relocated to Indiana) said that even on that day she was the only one who was really flipping out at her job...Everyone else was just unattached...I guess...?

Yes I agree.... I remember going up to Vermont in October 2001, and second you crossed the NY boarder to CT on the way up... you didn't see the flags on the cars or the highways. It's sad really, I wonder if main land USA had a similar reaction to Pearl Harbor?

I don't think so. We were talking the other day about how WW2 really bonded this country and made everyone so proud to be Americans. Everyone got involved - men enlisted, my grandmother tells stories about how they gave up things so that weapons could be made, etc. Everyone wanted to do something to help.

I wound up looking at all of the memorial sites last nite ... including friends...because of this thread. So sad. Thanks for reminding me to never forget though.

sorry to be depressing everyone... i just started reading some of these memorials.. for many of us it hit us hard but not peronally. I knew many people who dies but no one that was very close to me. even though its been almost 3 years since it happened, for these poor families, it feels like yesterday and the pain never does away.....

when your having a bad day with your husband or wife, just read this and relaize how lucky you are to have that chance to make up.... this memorial is what got to me the most....

this is so true - it still hurts even to think about it and sometimes the media coverage just makes it worse.....before 9/11 i enevr considered gettign married even though dh and i had been togetehr for yrs but then it changed everything, including my persepctive on it...it still bothers me that people seem to forget too.

It is difficylt to think of Spetember 11th, but I look at it a bit differently than most people.

Being in the military, death is something that you come to terms with a little better than other people since it is our choice to enlist or not.

What bothered me most that the majority of people were noncombatants..who were not given a choice and should be remembered...not just on Sept 11th thru a memorial or anyother symbol but in how life is lived..period.

But what is making me even angrier is that there are my brothers and sisters (Army, AF, MArines, NAVY enlisted) who are not getting half as much publicity or respect as Sept 11th did..as if death is normal simply because you chose your profession..it can never be normal and no life is more valuable than another.

don't get me wrong, i think about the military men and women all the time as well and feel for them and their families. my brother is a fellow marine and i know many of his friends are over in Iraq now. my ex boyfriend- the one i was with before my husband, is over there now as well. my post was just in response to what i was doing while my husband was out playing volleyball...

Oh no I think that its good to remember Sept 11th but I noticed Sept 11th there was so much memorials going on and so forth..for these guys and gals who are still dying..the publicity has decreased immensely since this election campaign got started.

I like this post..you are talking about something that so many have forgotten

myasmom- you are absolutely right- other things are taking precedence and people forget just how many men and women we have over there fighting, being hurt and losign their lives so we can live the way we live. its a shame.... to all of them!!!
