WR: Please beware girls!! (sorry long)

Original post by Collweenie21

Just wanted to give everyone I speak to a heads up and word of advice.

FH and I have been to about 5 recent weddings. And at 3 of them we've seen incidents of stolen money, swiped gift cards, and stolen purses.

The first time I saw this happen was towards the end of the night when everyone was on the dance floor, my friend went to the table to find her card ripped open and the $200 in cash taken from it. Of course she told the bride who later complained to the BM and of course 'no one in their staff would ever do that!'

The second time it happened to me. At cockatil hour I was catching up with a couple of old friends. I had about 3 plates of food, cause ya know, cocktail hour is the best. I KNOW I had the card under a plate, being cocktail hour was outside and it was a little windy. The busboy came and cleared away the plates, and all of a sudden... the card was missing. I immediately notified the maitre d, and the card was found a half hour later, ripped open in the mens room, with the check still inside since I was smart enough to make it out to the bride.

This past weekend, once again, when everyone was in a second room towards VH at the end of the night, someone stole this girls purse and shawl, and it was found in the mens bathroom.

Sorry this is so long, and I don't mean anything bad by this, but when attending a wedding, please be careful of your things, and take MINIMUM stuff with you. In the future I've decided to mail the bride and groom their gift instead of taking it to the wedding.

This past weekend I felt so bad for the girl it happened too. They cleaned out her entire purse!

I have to admit I was pretty careless at my eparty. I definitely gotta develop a plan on how to guard my stuff at the wedding.

yeah even for my e-party i gave every card to my mother, and when she got up she would give it to my dad or another family member to hold onto, so at all times somebody was watching it lol...my other things though yeah i was careless with, such as my bag and other things

AWWWW that is horrible. Can you pl share with me these halls? You think they were someone that worked at these halls that did this??

honestly it doesnt matter, it can happen at any hall...whether its the worker, or many times its actually the guests

I think its the workers bec it seems halls hire anyone and everyone

ALSO watch what you leave in your car when you valet it, once they stole FH's IPOD from his car

Yup... I didn't even think of this.... most cars have a valet key, so give them that one, and lock up ALL valuables in the dashboard, or just leave them home.

Thats why my FH never valets, you cant trust these kids who valet

at my e-party I left my pocketbook in my car and the cards I placed inside a gift bag as people gave them to me and left the gift bag behind the Dj because only the DJ was there and I knew no one else would be going behind him. And if I did have open cards I would know exactly who to blame SAD but true

it can be but ALOT of times its guests believe it or not...The instances im talking about were guests...see what happens is if ppl realize during the wedding they can check the workers and their belongings so its hard for them to really do it, especially in a situation where they steal the whole card box, but a guest can just leave right after it happens...stealing 1 or 2 envelopes then yes that can be a worker but a worker is alot easier to catch if you realize it before the wedding is over.

this is why i ALWAYS write checks and never write them out to cash.........at least if its missing I can cancel it and send a new one!

thats exactly why my card cage is going on my table. luckily my dad and uncles are retired cops so they take that stuff very seriously.

at my sister sweet 16 on of her friends cellphones went missing, my dad and uncles literally stopped the party for about 20 minutes to try and get someone to talk. im trying to avoid that embarassment lol and keeping the card cage right on my table.

This happened to FH at a wedding we went to a couple of years ago. He put cash in the card, left the card on the table for about 15 min, and when we looked, all the tables were cleared, and there was no sign of the card. FH now always makes sure to write out checks. It's sad, but it happens. Anyone could have taken it.

Oh yeah FH and i already came up with a plan bc of this...my friend went to a wedding where they took ALL the money from the couple, the whole card box ...plus ive heard of quite a few incidents

this happened to my sisters friend - they took the whole bag with the cards from her; and they somehow knew it was a guest that did it (can't remember how). so sad.

at another event 3-4 cars got broken into at douglaston manor after a christening.

people are nuts.

Wow These stories make me sick to my stomach, I had my Tom Tom stolen, and our car charges from a wedding in august. Before we went i begged FH to write a check and not put cash in the envelope cause of all the theft.

People who steal cant do anything with the check, but i was at a wedding recently and i left my bag on my seat, and i was very paranoid but everyone at the table kept their eye on it for me. its nuts how people steal at weddings

And yes catering halls hire anyone, and mostly its young kids and the pay is HORRIBLE! They work LONG hours and usually never get the tips that you think that 20% service charge is going towards.

I think the workers can be bitter and that could be a reason they steal the money and jewerly and cameras etc.

Same thing with the airlines, those baggage handlers make nothing, so when they open up your luggage and take stuff out, its like a bonus for them.

WORD OF ADVICE- We heard of this happening so every now and then my parents would clear out the card box and transfer all the cards to a duffle bag that was under the head table and being watched by an Uncle who doesn't dance.

OMG YES thats true with baggage handlers, I ve learned my lesson to never stick anything in the outer compartments of my bag, the ones that dont have locks on them. I had things stolen like that. What is a TOM TOM sorry, lol? Yeap its young kids for the valet and its young kids to serve

This is the one thing that scares me... i feel so sorry for the people that this happens too... here you are trying to have a good time and celebrate the marriage of two wonderful people and you have to worry your generous present to them being stolen.... or worse yet, bride and grooms getting all these wonderful well wishes from people and haveing that stolen from them...

some people are just cold hearted!

we were at a wedding where 4 people had their camera stolen, at my table! I think they saw how ghetto mine was and decided they didn't want it, LOL. It was out on the table the whole night and could have been easily snatched. Being poor has its perks.
