I made DH write his own vows. It wasn't that bad. I kept a notepad with me and when I thought of something I would jot it down. I read a book (was in my wishing well from the shower) about vows, I just stuck to the typical ' I take you, promise to love cherish, sickness and health, etc) And added my own twists. I spoke of how he was my soul mate, great father to my DD, I would let him watch baseball and football and how I would spend my 'forever' with him. Guests commented on how nice they were. Once you put pen to paper, it is really easy to say how much your FH means to you.
can anyone recommend a good book to help with vow writing?

Dh & I wrote our own vows...and he blew me away with what he said...it wasn't necessarily poetic...but it was from the heart...as for me I am more of a writer...when i came to writing mine, i went thru poems and cards I had given him over the 6 years we'd been together and came up with my ideas from that...
Me and FH just got done watching 'License to wed'...and he asked me if we were writing our own vows. I said...'I don't know'....I would have no idea how to do it without sounding cliche. I am not the best writer, but I think it adds a personal touch.
FH and I are going to write ours but we haven't actually thought about what to write yet. That's the next project!! We were originally going to just use the ones the officiant provided but we have been through so much together- I thought it was important we write our own.
we are along w/ reciting the traditional ones. I have no idea how i'm going to do it, I hate public speaking but it's important to me to have FH hear from the heart why I am marrying him.
