Re: Writting your own vows???
We're actually going through this right now. My FH wants to just do standard vows and have the priest and rabbi do the readings, but there is no way I will let that happen. I don't want o just stand there and repate after them. I want my ceremony to be personal, at least a little. I told him that we can either do the readings ourselves, to each other, and then do the standard vows. Or we would pick readings for the priest and rabbi to read and then we would write our own vows. He's giving me a hard time, but too bad. I WILL get my way on this.

I think it's a really sweet gesture, but I hate when the bride and groom break out the looseleaf and begin reading !!! - that ruins it ! Good Luck !! I couldn't keep it together to write and say my own !!

we did our own and made the entire place cry....I don't have them handy right now, they are at home and truly very personal.
ETA: I found mine...
I, Shana, in complete faith, honesty, and love take you Richard to be my husband. Today, before our past and our present, I give you my future. Before God, I open up my heart and soul and give you my undying love. As you accept this ring, I vow to you my never ending support and a love full of devotion, laughter and tears. When you cannot see I will guide you When you cannot stand, I will hold you up When you feel you can no longer believe, I shall show you your faith once again.

Well we are making a format so we don't deviate too much. Like 5 'i promises' that we write our selves...and bla blah blah.
I went to a wedding where they wrote 'love letters' to eachother..and I'm sure it was nice..but we couldn't HEAR ANYTHING! And the anything we coulnd't hear was LONG! The whole point is for people to witness...so I don't plan on tourturing them...just sharing our thoughts. We are so unconventional in other ways..it would be odd to have the 'normal vows'.

Re: Writting your own vows???
We wrote our own ceremony. Here is what I used as my vows.
David, today is the day that I always hoped would come. Through the turmoil and the bliss I always felt that together we work. Over the past 4 and 1/2 years you have opened my eyes and heart to a happiness I never imagined. For this I not only love you , but I thank you. Thank you for your comfort, support, sense of humor and opening your heart and world to mine.
I believe that we enter into this marriage knowing that life changes. The test of love is not in avoiding change, but navigating through it successfully. I know we have the skills to weather any storm and reveal in the calm.
I promise to you in the company of our closest friends and family to always be faithful and honest. To share with you my fears, hopes, sorrows and triumphs. I love you David and it is with great pride that today I take my place at your side as your wife. Where I will walk for all my days to come. I look forward to our journey together.
ETA: I honestly don't think that any of our guests minded that we 'whipped out the looseleaf'. Actually, I think that they appreciated the fact that we had taken the time to express our feelings in our own words.
