To make a long story short, my Dh has EXCELLENT credit, he just found out that his brother is in collections and somehow his brothers account is tied into his name , and our phone #, ( we own our home) with his Mom's address in the city... obviously by accident. What does he do? Where do we start to correct this??? OY VEY. Do we need a lawyer? HELP

Re: Wrong Identity....
i believe you have to sit down with the credit report and dispute the charges that aren't his by calling each of them, or somehow getting in touch with each creditor to get that off the report. it happened to Dh, who is a 3rd and it took a while to get all cleared up. do it as quickly as you can because it's a lengthy process. i dont' think you'll need a lawyer, just some time

Re: Wrong Identity....
start by getting a detailed credit report from:
Experian Equifax TransUnion
then contest each questionable line item in writing (i believe you can also submit via web now). they have 30 days to respond. if they don't the item automatically comes off. if they do and you don't like the results i would find out what needs to be done from them.
DH got lot of things knocked off, the obvious mistakes were a non-issue.

Re: Wrong Identity....
You have to contact the credit bureau and work it out with them. I work at a mortgage company and we get reports constantly with stuff on it that is not our client's. The credit bureau, TransUnion, Experian and Equifax should be able to clear it up. HTH

Did his brother use his name or phone # at any point?

Re: Wrong Identity....
Start by getting a copy of your husband's credit report and disputing any wrong information on it.
