WW - What do you get at the first meeting? and what are the rules?

Hi Ladies!

Congrats on all of your accomplishments, I Hope to be rejoining these boards in a few months

When I do start WW, although I dont want to spend the $$ for meetings every week I would like the updated booklets and some key points for motivation. So Id like to attend a few meetings and then go on my own.

Do you get all essential materials at the first meeting?
How long are you committed for? Is it pay as you go? What if a month later I want to go to one more meeting
What if I stop going, what are the penalties?

Thanks for any info !

I think there are two plans but the one i am on is that its $9.95 a week and you can miss three weeks of weigh ins without being penalized after that you have to pay for what you missed. Once you reach your goal weight and maintain it for 6 weeks you become a lifeti e ( i just made it YAY!!) anyway and when you are lifetime you get weighed in once a month ( u can weigh in more i think but required is once a month) and you must be within two pounds of that goal weight at every weigh in> Hope that helps and wasnt too confusing!

On the first week you get the welciome package and each week you get a new booklet with new info!

So there IS a penalty for not going back?
If I pay for the first class and not go back, Im charged for what I miss?

after you miss 3 you are allowed to miss three meetings/weigh ins after that you have to make up the diference. But.. there is a another payment plan which i am not familiar with. Good Luck

Supposedly, The three free misses is a Nassau promotion. I know in Suffolk, you are not allowed free misses. We have to pay for all weeks missed upon returning.

Hmm...don't go to WW, so I don't know specifics about payment etc..however, I have seen the startup kits on ebay, and I think withthisring and danielleandscott sell (or at least have sold) them. Maybe you could look into that, to avoid paying the sign up fees, and for meetings you don't attend? I dunno. As far as motivation, there's always the slim down board.

Also wanted to say that weightwatchers.com has a message board, so maybe someone over there can help answer your questions a little better. Or you can always go to them for tips in the future.

Hello, Saw this post and had to respond. My name is Scott and I used to go to WW. I would just go for weigh ins and I wouldnt attend the meetings. When I joined, it was Free to register, like I believe it is now too. It is also $9.95 a week if you want to go every week or $13.95 I think if you want to go everyother week.

You have other choices though. You can join ww online on the ww site and then I think you only pay $14.95 a month and you would have to weigh in at home.

I dont goto WW anymore, and I dont do the website thing. I go by the plan, and eat what I am supposed to eat each week and weigh in at home each saturday. Going to WW got to expensive for me, so I decided to do it on my own, and I am very happy.

If you need any of the start up books...I have them, if you want to buy them. I dont need them anymore. Or you can join WW, weigh in your first week and never go back. They will give you your getting started book, and one journal.

I would recommend getting the WW starter kit. The kit contains 2 books and a fold out that you may find important to have. The first book includes points for any food that you could possibly think of. The second book contains points for many restaurants and many fast food places that you would goto. And the third thing is a foldout that you can take a long with you. It contains points for food you may eat at a restaurant. With this kit, you also get a little black vinyl folder to put all your books in.

The second thing I recommend getting is the 12 week Diary. Instead of using the paper ones that you get each week when you weigh in. This spiral 12 week Diary is very handy and easy to keep with you at all times.

Thanks for responding everyone.
Scott thanks for the detailed info!
Thats exactly what I wanted to do. Go in the first week, to get the materials and pay for the first class, and not bother going back.

I just wasnt sure what materials Id be given (The Starter Kit) and what Id have to buy extra.
So after the meeting, Id be able to buy these additional items?

You can buy the starter kit directly from weight watchers, or you can buy it on Ebay. If you buy it at WW, you will pay alot less than if you bought it on ebay.

You can purchase anything from a ww center without being a member.

OK thanks Scott.
So the booklets the come with the first class are not much help?
I'll make a list frm your other post on what I should buy.

Not really...It makes for good quick skimming but it really only tells you the basics of the plan. Tells you about flex points, and also about how many points you should eat for your weight
