WWYD

question.........

my car is making this loud screeching noise (2002 2 door accord with 115k miles on it......THANKS FOR LIVING IN BK FH).....

so, I know its more than the brakes, I think axels or something else.....whatever....

I do need a new car becauseeee the airconditioning last year started flaking out towards september time....I let it go because it was Fall...........

would you just turn around and buy a new car if you were me orrrrr wait until you are married?? I guess I could fix it when they figure out what is wrong but is it worth putting tons of $$$ into an old car when more problems will probably just keep happening?? Should I wait until after the wedding??

I am confused! LOL.....anddd if you were to get a new car, finance or lease? I financed mine when I got it and they told me recently I could trade it in for 5k.....

Do you girls lease or finance?? Wait until after wedding or just get it now before more problems start and not bother fixing whats wrong with it now?

Bring it in and find out how much everything is going to cost to get it fixed. Then i'd make a decision.

I would wait if I were you ...

My A/C is shot too - and my spedometer doesn't work. Oh yeh, and the transmisssion is slipping. But, I'm waiting until after the wedding bc I want to take my time looking and pick out something I like and is affordable. I don't want to make a rushed decision. However, there are two factors here that may be different than you. I don't use my car during the week - I work in the city and take the subway. I only use it on weekends for running errands. Also, my wedding is in 3 months so I can't even think about this rt now.

I have a 2002 subaru with similar mileage. I had to get it all fixed up recently and I asked FH if it was worth it (his dad's a mechanic) or if I should think about getting a new car... He said, if I wanted, I had about 5-10 more years on it...

Hondas are pretty good quality cars. I would take it to a mechanic you trust, and see what he has to say about it. It might be something more simple than what you're thinking... Have you had all the regular tune-ups? Timing belt, rotors, etc???

Whatever you do, I don't think the screeching sound is good, so make sure you're safe!!!

Find out how much it is to fix it, then decide if you should buy a new car.

if it was me and i had the money... i'd do it.

but you know better than us what your financial situation is.

if you think, in the least, that you might be cutting things a little tight... i'd wait.

Bring it in and have them tell you how much it'll be to fix - then make a decision. You definitely don't want to try to put it off until after the wedding to have it completely die on you one day - that would be my fear.

If you can swing it (budget-wise), then do it now. I'd finance just because I don't know much about leasing.

Ditto!

I have always leased. I recently bought out my lease on my 2007 Acura TSX. I love the car and I was high on mileage so I didn't have much of a choice. With leasing it really depends on how much you are going to drive and if you care that you are paying money each month for a car you will just turn in. You will of course have cheaper payments but in the end you just turn it in and have to start from scratch.

Buy new. Why put the money into something you're going to get rid of in a few months? That money would be better spent on the down payment of something new and (numero uno) SAFE and working AC is always nice too.

I lease but that is because I get bored of things easily and when I financed usually would end up trading something in after three years and lose money on it. So for me leasing makes sense. BUTTTTT financing is usually more fiscally responsible. FH will probably make me finance my next car.

i would bring it in and find out how much it is to fix it first... if its not worth fixing it for that money, then i would buy a new car.... my mom got a new car (zero money down, 60 months no interest financing) its a nissan, she didnt want to shell out too much money cuz of the wedding but she came across this deal. and she donated the old one and will be a tax write off

forgot to mention........

the d-bag mechanic my dad brought it to this morning while I was getting ready for work told him 'oh its nothing......may just be a piece of plastic stuck under the tire...........or it could be the light for an oil change is on, so maybe thats why its squeaking....'

WHAT DOES A LIGHT INDICATING AN OIL CHANGE IS DUE HAVE TO DO WITH SCREECHING NOISES WHEN I BRAKE!?

I am taking it to Honda during lunch....ugh

I agree, get an estimate first, then decide.

Re: WWYD

The AC might just need to be charged... which is like $50 for the cans of freon and is probably something FH could do. FFIL did mine.

I'd wait to see how much it costs to repair the car first. It might not be that bad.

Re: WWYD

no, the ac he said will either be 800 or 2000 depending on which part is broken....they have to fix the 800 part to see if that works and if not, then they have to replace the entire system itself....I am not fixing either or those lol

yeah that mechanic's a moron....

take it in and get a quote. Honestly honda is gonna be insanely high. I would bring it to sts or something.

Re: WWYD

I wouldn't get a new car if all that was wrong was the AC, I'd just roll down the windows and tell everyone else to deal with it.

If it's more than just AC, and isn't that much money, I'd consider getting it repaired. Pros are you have a Honda, it's not that old, and they can handle super high mileage (like 200k+). Cons are if you fix it, it eats into what you would get in a trade in, you may not get as good a trade in amount if you wait 6 months or more, and more things can go wrong with the car.

If it involves engine work or a transmission, run away from it very fast, and finance a car. I suggest a pre-owned car, that's a year old. You get a better price and possibly a better warranty for buying pre-owned depending on the car company you go to (I got an extra 2 years, FH also got an extra 2 years on his BMW). I'm very happy with my VW Passat, and the service people are wonderful, and I get shuttle service to and from (love living in Great Neck).

my ac didnt work for 2 YEARS but i never took it to get fixed cuz i was pooor... guess what? guy charged me15$ to fix it. i felt like a diiiiiiiiiiiiik lolol

see how much it is for them to fix it , then make a decision. id hold off on the car as long as possible.

Find out how much it would cost you to fix it. If it's a small amount to you, then fix it and deal with buying/leasing after the wedding.

FH and I lease now.
