Two checks we received as gifts bounced. How would you handle this?

eh i probably wouldn't say anything... they will get a notice that they bounced so they will know whether you say anything or not.
are they from people you're close to?

Re: WWYD ...
ohh man what a toughie!
i think in the end I would ignore it....it would probably only serve to embarrass the people who gave the check
unless it was a very close family member OR a really large amount that would be VERY useful to you, then i would send a note (email, whatever, because its less embarrassing than a phone call to the receiver) saying 'thank you so very much for such a generous gift. unfortunately i wanted to let you know that the check did not go through, just so that you were aware. thank you again so much' then the ball is in their court to either ignore it (in which case you know they're mortified) or to right the wrong. you're not asking for another check you're just letting them know about it and i think that is totally fine!

Re: WWYD ...
I don't know if any bounced yet. I was just wondering in case they do since we waited about 3 weeks to cash them.

we waited 3 weeks to cash ours too ... thankfully none bounced.
Carey - i'd probably just mention it to my parents or in laws (whoever's guest it was) and let them handle it or ignore it at their discretion.

Re: WWYD ...
did you check the dates on the checks? maybe they were post dated?? if not, I would think that the person will call you once they realize that their check has bounced

you probably got charged a fee too, right?
it was probably an accident... and it happens... but definetely let them know...
i would use meredith's approach and send a very very nice email...
