WWYD? - Need Advice

I applied for a summer associate position at a private company.

The HR rep sent me an email a few days later telling me that as part of the recruitment process I need to complete the online form using the link she sent me.

I went on to complete the online form (mostly job history, education history, etc). Then at the end of the form they are asking me for my SSN to do a BG check. The check is not the issue for me - I'm just not sure about a place that is asking me for my SSN for a BG check (including financial BG check) when they haven't even called me for an interview.

I really would like to have a summer job and it's a solid company and a decent position. But I was iffy when I saw the SSN part and just stopped completing the form.

Would you complete it? I just don't know what to do.

I think maybe your reservations are partly bc it's an online form. Would you feel more comfortable giving it to the HR person over the phone or in person during an interview? They might be thinking, why interview with someone if their BG check is no good.

If they're a reputable company tho I wouldn't worry about it.
