So as I told you last week, I was offered a promotion at work. It's not so much a promotion as it is a very similar job but in a different part of the agency and it comes with a slight pay increase. I accepted, but I won't be able to start until at least the last week in October as my current boss says he can't let anyone go yet
BUT.......yesterday I got a phone call to interview for another position I sent an application to at another agency. It's a supervisor position (as opposed to my current case worker and soon to be case manager position), so it obviously means much more responsibility, but also of course, a higher salary. Essentially, it's my current boss' job, just at a new (new to me, but very stable and established) agency.
DH says I shouldn't even go interview because if I get offered the job, how am I then supposed to go back to my current agency and tell them (a) I'm leaving my current job (which they know) AND (b) I now declining the new position as well (after already accepting).
I think I need to go anyway and give it a shot. It's so hard to get supervisory experience in the social work field if you don't already have it, and it doesn't seem the managers at my agency are going anywhere anytime soon to allow for that growth option.
So ladies..........WWYD??????

I would still go, only you would know what will make you happy. Plus you can tell the job it was a higher title and raise maybe they can match the offer.

if you get the job, who cares what your current company thinks ... and as long as you give htem proper notice, they can't complain about it!

You NEED to go. You can't resist such an opportunity. Once you see what that company is offering and how you feel about it, you can use that to either help you at your current company or it will give you an opportunity to move up and forward someplace new. I would go and also, they really aren't letting you take on your new position yet, so... that makes it a bit weird to me.

seriously times are hard and I definitely wouldn't turn down the opportunity. Your currently company can't fault you for wanting to take a higher position at another company. good luck

You can't worry about how your current agency is going to take it...you need to do what's best for you (which is to go on the interview!)

Even if you go, and you aren't interested, it is still practice! I would go on interviews that I KNEW I didn't want just to make myself more ready if the perfect opportunity ever came up!

You have to do whats best for you! Who cares about your company. When push comes to shove, if they needed to lay you off, they would. So go to a more stable company that pays you more! As long as you leave in a professional manner and give proper notice, it should never be an issue. Good Luck!

I think you should definitely go for the interview!
Why deprive yourself of another/better opportunity? If you get the job, it wouldn't be the hardest thing telling your agency you're leaving, in fact, it'll be easier than you think!
