WWYD? (nwr)

Original post by Lsorrent

So as I told you last week, I was offered a promotion at work. It's not so much a promotion as it is a very similar job but in a different part of the agency and it comes with a slight pay increase. I accepted, but I won't be able to start until at least the last week in October as my current boss says he can't let anyone go yet

BUT.......yesterday I got a phone call to interview for another position I sent an application to at another agency. It's a supervisor position (as opposed to my current case worker and soon to be case manager position), so it obviously means much more responsibility, but also of course, a higher salary. Essentially, it's my current boss' job, just at a new (new to me, but very stable and established) agency.

DH says I shouldn't even go interview because if I get offered the job, how am I then supposed to go back to my current agency and tell them (a) I'm leaving my current job (which they know) AND (b) I now declining the new position as well (after already accepting).

I think I need to go anyway and give it a shot. It's so hard to get supervisory experience in the social work field if you don't already have it, and it doesn't seem the managers at my agency are going anywhere anytime soon to allow for that growth option.

So ladies..........WWYD??????

Can't hurt to go and see ...

And I mean...

Sometimes you gotta break some eggs to make an omelette if you're picking up what I'm putting down.

Definitely go for it if it's an opportunity that doesn't present itself that often in your field!

I agree with everyone else. I'm a social worker so I totally understand the field. It's so much easier to try the supervisory role, not like it and go back to case management, than to try to get a supervisory job if you hate the current promotion. The new experience can also help you avoid burn out if you're on the edge

Give it a shot...you gotta get off the boat so you can walk on water

You have to do you. Go on the interview!

PS - I'm also a social worker. Yay us!

Definitely go, but if you get the job, make sure it's what you want before you accept...Because a place is established does not mean that it functions well or you would fit into it. Ask to talk to some employees before accepting. You already know how your company works, so judge it against that.

I'm just saying this because a friend of mine got a social work job at a respectable agency -- they told her everything she was going to do, etc. and when she got there, she did paperwork -- she didn't even get to interact with ANYONE and the company was bs...so I would just be aware.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Laura I would go but of course tell DH about it before you do go. It's an opportunity and if you think about it, would your job think about you if they were letting you go? That's how I look at it whenever I think about leaving and when for my current job. If you get it, it's an opportunity of a lifetime (per say) and if you don't, at least you tried and you still have a promotion waiting for you.

GOOD LUCK!!!
