For those of you who have these which would you recommed and why? My son wants either one but I told him I'm not getting it for..but I am. I don't want to ask him which one he would rather have because he will know I am getting it for him.

I am glad you asked that question. I was thinking of getting one for my fh for xmas! What do I actually need to buy? The console? Memory cards? games? I really am at a loss.

My DH has both also and is almost always playing xbox. I sort of tune out with the consoles, but I think Xbox does not need any extra memory cards or anything like that, it has a hard drive, so I would think just the console and some games would be fine. He also plays online with people, so maybe a 1 year subscription to xbox live would be nice too.

Xbox has internal harddrive, therefore not that much loading time.....you dont need a memory card for this one. it gets online alot easier..
i like playstation, there are WAY more games, and this is the one i have!
DH and his friends have PS2 and they can play online together...so you may want to see what his friends have...
If you do get PS2...you should get a memory card...an extra controller (come with one...so he can buy another on his own)...and for something really special you could get him an ethernet card...so he can play online...
PS2 also plays DVDs...which is a plus for us...since our DVD player just died

The set is I think 179,999 it comes with 1) the console 2) controllor and some come with 2 games

We chose an X-Box because although playstation had more games, XBox has a nicer DVD Player.. and we use it for both.

I have played both systems, and I used to have a PS2. I would say to go with the playstation two. The games for Xbox seem to be more expensive, there arent as many games as the PS2 has, and I like the games that the playstation has to offer more than the games Xbox has. This is just my personal feelings....
Also before you goto the store and buy one, look on EBAY. There are always people selling PS2 systems with games, memory cards, and controllers already....for alot less money than it would cost you to buy it at a store.
Also if you are going to buy the playstation you will need an extra controller($24.95), 1 or 2 memory cards ($24.95), and a game or two....
I would look into ebay.

X-box has better online play, but the games are geared more for adults ( as in graphic violence, gore, language, etc.). PS2 has many more games to choose from, especially for kids. FH works in the gaming industry, I can answer whatever questions you need to know!

DH along with my brother and all their friends are addicted to PS2 since now they can play on-line but now DH wants X-box so it looks like I will get that for him for Christmas. Looks like I won't be seeing him much right after Christmas when we gets that!

we have a PS2. we love it!!!! there are a ton of really cool games (Grand Theft Auto Vice City, Need for Speed) that we both enjoy. there is nothing better on a snowy weekend staying in our PJ's and playing PS2 all day!!

I just bought DH the PS2 for Christmas.
A close friend is a game designer and he says 'while the quality' is better with the XBOX, that the ### of games available on PS2 make it his top choice.
But..... I did get the gift receipt just in case DH decides he wants an XBOX instead....
I got him the 199.99 set with controller, game, and everything to get started online gaming. Then I also bought a memory card and the new Simpsons game
