X-POST from 2010 board - Church Time Dilemma

Hello, I need some advice, please!
Our church ceremony (full mass which we def want) is currently scheduled for 3:30, cocktail hour at 7. We figured that since it's the first Friday of the month, most Catholic Schools have a half day and we figured it wouldn't be a problem to move the ceremony to 3. This way it would go from 3-4:30, Pictures from 5-6:30 (possibly at OWG) then make it back to JT at 7. FH wants to go into the cocktail hour for a little as well as the bridal party and I hope to be having my hair put up during this time before the reception at 8. I'm not going into the cocktail hour, I really want my hair put up for the reception so it's off my face and I can feel cooler hopefully when dancing. So apparently St. Christopher's does not have a half day on First Fridays (I'm currently trying to call the school to confirm this). Appparently the students get out at 3 and the woman I spoke to from the Parish said it would possibly be chaos with parking, etc. Moving it to 3:30 pushes everything back a half hour. The sun sets on that day at 6:34 I believe so a half hour of our pictures would be in the dark if we do pay to go to OWG. We'd make it to JT at 7:15, with seeing the room and getting settled, only half hour left for cocktail hour and to get my hair put up. I really don't want to be rushed and was so happy with the possibility that I thought would work with moving the ceremony to 3. The woman I spoke to said I could still ask the priest and maybe he'll do it, FH doesnt think so though. But, if we do move it up are we crazy to have the Mass start when the school lets out (I'm also trying to find out the exact time from the school so I know for sure)? Is pushing it back a half hour going to screw up a lot with it being dark and rushing back to JT for the reasons mentioned above? The church is 21 min away from OWG and OWG is about 10 min from JT. I really don't want to switch the church, I love it, I'm so torn as to what to do.

Mini-update: I just got through to the school, dismissal is at 3 and 3:05. She said the buses are by the school parking lot though and not across the street by the Church parking lot, do you think that helps?. Hopefully there is a possibility that it's not too hectic and the priest will do it for us. I just don't want to get my hopes up again and then be stuck. I want to ask the priest in person on a Saturday after mass. However we're prob going to be in SI for the next couple of weekends, so unfortunately I may have to wait. Unless I can't take it and I just call to speak with him directly. I don't know when we'd be able to see the school at that time to know how busy it is with work and all. Sorry so long any input is greatly appreciated (especially any brides who my have had pics at night, did you just stick to being inside, etc.)!!

FIrst piece of advice I'll give you is that you DO NOT want to be rushing!! Trust me- you want to enjoy the day, not stress about the time frame (we had our church at 12:15 and reception wasn't until 730 on a friday just to avoid rushing lol!)

Now to tackle some other issues--
-Are you sure you want to let your FH go into the CH without you? It's such a fun part of your day to be together as your guests congratulate you!

-the actual time that the sun sets doesnt matter as much as when the light starts to fade. We were at OWG for pics at 430 in November, and my photog said we JUST made it with the light, that there wasnt much left-- even though the sun wasnt setting yet

-I think OWG closes at 6-- definately look into that!

-If you're going to take nightime outside pics, it should be somewhere where there is artificial light, and I dont think OWG has much-- maybe your RH?

-not sure what kind of limos you have, but remember that some limos and party buses have to take side streets ect- so make sure that you're calculating your time based on that and won't be cutting it too close!

OK- all of that being said... have you thought about you and FH meeting before the church? Having a reveal and taking pics prior to? This way you get the pics you want with no trouble worrying about the light and you'll have time to get your hair done AND enjoy CH?

Either way-- good luck!!
