Ok, so my sister's MIL is getting remarried in November. She came to my shower and my wedding and gave us a $300 gift.
We got her invitation about a month ago and on the invite it says 'your presence is the only gift we require' implying she didn't want any gifts. However, my sister overheard her SIL and her MIL speaking about how she did want to receive gifts and she hoped people ot her gift certificates to restaurants that she liked. (this women is evil BTW and super psycho to my sister)
So, obviously she wants a gift but still put that she didn't want one on her invite. What do DH & I do? Do we give her back the $300 she gave us? Do we get her a gift instead?
What to do!!!!!!

I would give her a GC to a resturant she likes. I wouldn't do the whole $300, maybe $150-$200.

Hey, she doesn't know you overheard that convo and since she is evil and implied she didn't want gifts + she's an older woman getting remarrried (i'm assuming she's not going full out like you did?) while you guys are young just starting out, I say give her a gift card for like 100-150.

She is getting married at Chateau le Mer and is having a buffet - not VH, not even sure she is doing a CH. Not wedding dress, just a fancier pretty dress. No video/limo/photographer - nothing.
DH said to just give her a little something, like a pretty statue or something or like a gc or something for $150 or soemthing. But would it look bad if we only give her $150 back if she gave us $300?

That's a tough one. I would probably get closer to what she gave you guys. Even though she's having a smaller wedding with not as many vendors, it's still a celebration for them, and for that reason I'd want to get closer to what they gave me. Maybe give her $200 or $250 gift card?
