X-Post (NWR): Successfully breaking an apartment lease?

Has anyone successfully broken their apartment lease (for any reason)? Please share!!!!

As I've mentioned, since we're house hunting (and getting much closer to THE ONE!), I have a feeling we're going to find our house before our lease is up (7 months from now)....

There is a clause in our lease agreement about 'assigning' our lease over to someone, but I'm not clear how it works. When we finally contact the management company to tell them our situation, I want to make sure we are as well informed as possible to make a case for breaking the lease and signing it over to another renter.

I'm wondering if anyone can share their story or any advice about getting out of your lease!!! TIA!!!

ive never had to break a lease but im sure u could sublet to someone for a few months...think of it this way too...your close to getting a house but have u put in an offer yet? that can take a few weeks to clear with the banks and then clsings can be anywhere from 30 to 90 days...if u end up on the longer end it may only be about 2 months to worry about

We did put in an offer.... and it's been accepted! AND the house has been inspected, so things are moving along a lot faster than we anticipated!

It doesn't say anything about subletting in our lease contract, but I'm hoping once we get in touch with the management company we'll be able to negotiate....

I have broken a lease by saying my job is relocating me so I have to move. Just have someone at your job write you a letter and it doesn't have to be super official looking or anything. Mine had one sentence saying that I was going to be working in Jersey. That was it.

Depending on where you live and the demand for the apt it might not be an issue at all. In some cases management is happy to see you go so they can raise the rent.

Best of luck with the house!
