Re: Baby name question - be honest

That is very true about only parents knowing and to be honest with you, I think it's very cute even if you didn't plan it on being the GH Luke & Laura.

If it makes you feel any better I know of people who named their sons Samuel Adam and Jack Daniel PURPOSELY!

It would come to mind, but I don't think it should stop you if you love the name. The kids in their classes wouldn't know, just the parents and if they had any class they wouldn't say anything.

Oh, Liz, go for it! It's a beautiful name and even if some people do think of it first of all, who cares and second of all, most won't say anything.

I'll be honest - it's the first thing I thought of and I was never even a soap fan in the GH 'Luke and Laura' days.

But, I agree w/KarenH...you could program yourselves into saying Laura and Luke, and then it doesn't automatically invoke the same memory.

If you really love the name, GO FOR IT! It's your child

Same here! If you don't make a big deal about 'Luke & Laura' they will never know what you are talking about.

I am not a soap fan, but GH was the first thing I thought of. But - I would never SAY that aloud to you or your children. Some peopel may though.

I agree with the other ladies. If you like the name Laura - go for it. It is a very pretty name and I think it would be more your children's parents than their peers who would make the connection.

I love the name Laura. Since I was a GH fan, I would notice the Luke and Laura connection - but I would never say anything. I say go for Laura!

You should do what you want to do! Dont worry about it, the kids wont even know about it like the other posters said. I think Laura is a pretty name! Even if someone did associate it with the characters, its not like they are notorious names. If you name your next two sons Osama and Saddam, then Ill start to worry!

I agree with everyone else -- yes, I did think of GH, but I think it's cute -- none of the kids will know who L&L by that time!!!

And kids will always think of some way or another to make fun of a name, no matter how hard you try not to pick one that's not 'make funable'! For example, my initials before I got married were DAS and back when I was in grammar school, initial sweatshirts were big (making a comeback now with just your first initial) and all the kids would say to me 'Debbie and Sasquash' as in Big Foot!!!!

I would get sooooo mad, but now when I think back, it's quite comical!!! And now I gave poor Gianna the initials of GMC!!!! The poor thing is going to be called every GMC truck/car there is!!!!

I think you will get comments --- my first name is a famous 70's actress (it's a pretty rare name -- I'll met two others with the same name in 30 years) and my maiden name is the last name of another famous actress from the 30's (also a rare name)!!!

I get comments all the time!! Not that the comments bother me but I think you will get comments!!!

ETS: People always find something to make comments about -- I actually think Luke & Laura is cute!!

Deb...you are so right!!!

my maidan name began with Em...and someone called me Erica M&M and I was mortified...although there was nothing really bad in that...

even my neighbor (albeit stetching it) called me Erica Perica...

I dont think by the time your child is in school people will know of 'luke and laura' lol
if you love the name go for it!

or do you like any variations like Lauren?

Re: Baby name question - be honest

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the comments. We decided we love the name and it would be ridiculous to care about some reference to some soap opera characters from the 80's or 90's. You know what, we will get comments no doubt but it's not like Im naming my kid William Williams or something else that is exclusive to them as an individual. KWIM?

I thought about derivatives of the name but I dont care for them as much. Lauren is cute but our last name ends with the 'in' sound also and I dont like how it sounds together.

LOL we will probably have another boy and it will be a moot point.

I don't think that anyone will make the reference to Luke and Laura years from now. I love the name Laura and/or Lauren, and we are considereing it as well. Go for it!

I grew up with a last name from a very popular 70's sitcom (well, and married someone who has a last name from another very popular 70's sitcom, but we won't touch that now!) and with 3 boys and 3 girls in my family, you can only imagine how many times we were sang that theme song or I was called Marcia (got it now?) My point? We greew out of it and I look back and laugh at it, and know people will always remember us because of it. It wasn't a bad thing!

I love the name Laura and if you love it you should use it. Sure GH might come to mind but so what? Use what makes you happy and Laura is such a beautiful name.

Laura is a beautiful name, but my first instinct with Luke...is GH....sorry! Laura also makes me thing of Little House on the Prairie....I'm on an old fashioned name kick!
