Re: FMIL got her dress...

I know its annoying when they do stuff like that... but what can we do? I hate royal blue... My mother LOVES it.. she even got mad when I didnt pick it for my bm dresses... I know she will wear whatever color she likes... her dress isnt going to make or brake my wedding.

but in all honesty - you said no 'black ivory or white' - and pale blue is not any of those colors.

You have to remember it is her son's wedding day so I'm sure it is important to her too - I know my mom and MIL wanted to look good for their friends!

By the time the big day rolls around, it won't even be a big deal...you'll be on cloud 9!

As far as them leaving you out of things, maybe you can tell your FMIL (in a nice way) 'Oh, i wish you would have told me, maybe we could have went shopping together ' blah blah

And tell your FH not to leave out important details!

Light blue is fine! It's not white or ivory! It's NOT going to steal your thunder!

Is there a picture of it on the net somewhere? do you know what it looks like?

I don't think they put one over on you. You said that she couldn't wear a white or ivory dress...so she got light blue. I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't think that a very light blue will take attention away from you. Don't stress about it

I don't see the problem. Light blue is nothing like ivory!

I have to agree that I don't see anything wrong with light blue. Don't worry, everyone will know that it's your day! But I do find it weird that no one mentioned the dress color to you before. Did they think you'd be upset b/c it is so light?

Dont feel that way. Your FI probably heard the word 'blue' and didnt even think about it being close to white or ivory. I know thats what mine would do.

She didn't buy a white, black or ivory dress. It is pale blue. I don't see what the problem is. Try to focus on the good stuff. This is not worth you getting upset about. You told her none of the above mentioned colors and she listened. I think that is credible.

I think that you should be flattered that FMIL respected your wishes. My FMIL doesnt talk to me about the wedding long enough for me to even tell her what dress is appropriate.

Re: FMIL got her dress...

I'm going to play devil's advocate. - When my cousin was married she insisted my Aunt NOT wear black - She insisted she NOT do a lot of things - In order to make my cousin happy, my Aunt ended up with a gown that was not at all her style - She was unhappy and uncomfortahble with the way she looked and it showed all night - It showed in the pictures, She looked washed out and not at all 'Mother of the Bride' She now regrets allowing my cousin to dictate what she could or could not wear. - Keep in mind that this is a big event for everyone and EVERYONE wants to look their best. -Aside from the expectation that you do not wear a white gown to a wedding unless you're the bride, I think asking people to NOT wear certain things is unfair -
And, it IS light blue, which was not one of the colors you asked her to stay away from -

I say get over it, and move on, she respected your wishes. It's one trivial item in the scope of life. Your getting married to the man you love, what more could matter!!! It's about you and him, that's why people come, not to see her.

Re: FMIL got her dress...

LOL!!! I have a similar situation, but mine's even a little worse. My wedding gown is ivory, so I obviously asked my mom and FMIL to stay away from white, ivory, or anything like it. My FMIL showed me her dress last week and it's 'creme' but a lot closer to ivory than anything else. I'm not crazy about that, but I know she's been looking for a while and since she liked the dress enough to buy it, I told her to keep it. It's nothing like my gown and she feels beautiful and comfortable in it. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and let things go. I'm sorry you are even having to deal with this, but it's not worth the aggrivation. Your wedding will be wonderful!
