I think if I went to a wedding and had to stand there searching for my name like that, I would be annoyed. It's going to delay your guests and there may be a 'traffic jam' of people looking for their name.

I voted no. Sorry.

I have to agree with this opinion, .. While I think its very unique and visually it looks just beautiful (I love the 'look' of it,) my concern would be that it would take too much time for people to find their names, etc. I know with older folks, they just want to find their name on a placecard and sit down! (LOL)

As I said, i think its a really original idea, but I had to vote no .. but heck don't listen to me, follow your own heart and you'll do what's best in the end

I voted yes.
I like it.. it is striking and Memoriable (sp)

You could get some photos of your guests finding their names. Just make sure they're spaced far enough apart. I'd also agree no more than 10 names per vase.

Too many may cause confusion. You could always have two sets A-L & M-Z on two sides and then split those letters up again by three. So you'd have two tables on opposite sides of the room with three vases on each. Help with the crowding issue.

Still I'd do it! Nice choice.

I think its unique but I voted no.
Honestly I think it looks nice but its not practical. I would be so afraid of making the whole vase of branches fall over trying to get my name card off ( it would happen to me b/c stuff like that always happens to me) and agree it might make a traffic jam. also some older people might have a hard time getting it off and keeping it still to read it ( b/c they will spin) It would also be ALOT of hard work IMO for something as simple as a place card. But thats JMHO - you do whats right for you

eta - I also think its a great way to add the whole butterfly theme and it is definitly creative.. something your guests will talk about

I love the branches...my opinion is I would make the butterflies as small as possible because the effect will be lost if they are too big and overpower the branches of the 'tree'..I also agree dont have it too crowded...space them wisely..and since you have fifty, I would use about 4 at least tree's...
Overall I think it will look amazing and cant wait to see pics of the real thing!

I Think I willo try it out first. Figure out a way to make them easily removeable. and a way to keep them from turning.

I have an idea to help with both of those issues but not sure where to find the 'props'...I have seen mini ( very very tiny) close pins...small as your pinkie nail...you could get clear ones, or white and paint them 9 I know adding more to the work! Sorry)...then either use them directly( easy to have the place cards removed) or use ribbon or string to hand them from that( might add to the swinging around)(

I like the idea but it would really depend on how many people you were having -- too many might cause some confusion

I like the idea very much jenny2penny...it fits your theme and it's very spring like...the only thing I'm worried about is:
#1: older or younger ones having trouble getting their tag off the branch
#2: the vases get knocked over in the 'rush' of people looking for their placecad....

It looks so pretty and I'm sure with the butterfly image, it will look like they are floating in the branches.....what about a combo of hanging ones, ones with small alligator clips, and ones resting on the table?

So you did decide to do the butterfly release?! Very cool!

I voted yes because I've seen it done at my friend's wedding last August and it was a big hit. It was not confusing at all and she had 300 guests and only ONE tree. She scattered the overflow on the guest card table. Also what she did to work the spinning thing to her advantage was that on the back of each butterfly cut out she wrote a little factoid about the bride or groom like 'Did you know that Mike used to love to eat banana sandwiches?'. It was SO cute. Oh, and btw, she did a butterfly theme too (obviously) and had WAY more butterfly stuff than you, including wings on the kids in the BP, and nobody thought it was butterfly overkill. It came very very nice.

I ABSOLUTELY love it Jenny!!! I think it will fit in perfectly with your theme. And I love the fact that you are using branches.
In fact, it's funny actually, one of my ideas is very similar....I'm going to use a branch in a vase and have blank pieces of paper cut out like butterflies so people can write their wishes to us and then place them on the branches. (I saw this idea in Martha stewart weddings but she used birds)

I think it is a great idea. I love butterflies! It shouldn't be a problem with the tags if you only have 50 and will divide them alphabetically. I hope your hands don't heurt from cutting all those butterflies!
