I replyed know before I read that you are only having 50 couples... For 50 names it wont be that bad but IMO any more than that it is going ot be like a treasure hunt looking for names. I can just picture FH grandmother freaking out b/c she cant find her butterfly.

For a smaller sized wedding I think it is a great idea especially if you have them divided into 3 vases.

I like it but it only works well if you have a small wedding - like yours! I went to 2 weddings that tried this & one was for 65 people, the other was 225. The 225 was chaotic & everyone was confused. The 65 was a lot easier. The bride divided them by Alphabetic groups that were small (A-E, F-J, K-M...) & it made it simple. Some letters had to be on their ow b.c it was a fmaily last name & there were too many people to combine.

It also helps if there is a sign or something easy to read that explains this is the place card table. The wedding for 65 had an attendant or waiter of some sort assisting people if they couldn't find their name- great for older family/friends.

Personally I love the idea, I think it is very sweet and cheerful. I have seen this done before and loved it, I love butterflys I think they are so classy looking .
