Re: FMIL LIED TO US!
She's being difficult, and quite frankly innappropriate about the whole thing. She shouldn't have bought thesecond dress if she didn't like it. She should have searched for a dress that she, and you, would love. Unfortunately, she's a grown women and you can't tell her what she can or can not wear. She knows that she's going against your best wishes and she obvious cares more about her appearance than your comfort level. I think that stinks! I'm so sorry that you have to face this frustration, but the best advice I can give you at this point is grin and bear it. She's going to do and wear whatever she wants. You need some love!!!

Re: FMIL LIED TO US!
First of all don't let her ruin your day. When all is said and done you're not going to care in the end. As for the colors of the dresses. My mom had a hard time picking out a dress b/c I had suggested silver based on FMIL's request. She looked all over and then finally decided to have one made in silver. I liked the sample they had in chocolate brown and after much convincing she is getting the brown. I had to find an article online to convince her it was ok to wear different colors.
The rule of etiquette states that mothers should NOT where the same color dresses but compliment the bridal colors. So if your bridesmaids' dresses are orange, blue might not be the way to go.

I wouldn't care. The last thing I need to be worrying about is what my FMIL is wearing to my wedding.

Hey there!
Don't sweat the small stuff. Let her wear whatever she wants because you my dear are the bride and everyone is going to be looking at you not her. As for your mom, ell her to do what she wants with her dress too. No one is going to notice whether or not the mother's match. Everyone is going to be looking at you remembering you, how the food was, whether or not they liked the music, etc. That's it!!

I agree with sams....don't let it get to you. I know it sucks that she is being difficult...but if she can't cooperate, just let her wear whatever she is most confortable in. There is NO WAY she will outshine you by ANY margin at all. It's ALL ABOUT YOU, and like a few others said, no oneis going to pay much attention to what the moms are wearing, whether or not they coordinate with the BM's dresses, and whether the moms match! Enjoy your day and let them sort it out amongst themselves...it's all about YOU marrying your best friend! Focus on THAT!

If you saw what my MIL wore to my wedding, you'd be happy. I didn't let it bother me.

Re: FMIL LIED TO US!
If she feels that she needs to wear that dress...let her. No matter what she can and will NEVER upstage you so don't even give her dress a 2nd thought. Just tell her OK and don't ask about it again at all. She probably likes the attention she's getting about the dress so I wouldn't even talk about it or have FH talk about it.
As for the MOB and MOG dresses matching, I've never seen that so I wouldn't worry that they don't match. Actually most are two totally different colors. And it's only on LIW that I learned (and I don't think it *has* to be this way all the time, depends on personal preference) that the MOG waits until the MOB gets her dress and doesn't try to outdo her. I've been to dozens of weddings before coming on LIW and I never knew that and never thought anything about it so seriously, no one is going to care that they aren't matching
Don't let her get to you

Awwwww. Tell your mom that if she REALLY wants a diff dress, she can go ahead and get one! I know how you feel......it sucks. Even if she doesn't get another dress, periwinkle is a NICE color and I am sure she will look pretty! I seriously doubt anyone will even remember what color dress she was wearing in a yr from now....

WHO CARES WHAT SHE WEARS!!!!! It is not her day - it's all about you. Tell her that you don't care what she wears - no drama. That will let her know how unimportant she really is in the overall scheme of things. It sounds like she gets a kick out of pushing your buttons. Your Mom will look better in photos and video because the deeper colors stand out more and your FMIL will be sorry when she sees how she faded into the background..

Re: FMIL LIED TO US!
If you are really that upset I suggestthat you have your FH speak to his mother and explain the situation. He should stress the fact that your Mom bought a periwinkle dress b/c she did and that she is making things difficult. Unfortunately some people ar ejust difficult and spoiled and will do anything to get their way. I would try to get past the whole thing, but keep it in mind for future decisions that involve her.

Re: FMIL LIED TO US!
She is being crazy, but what can you do? my friend's MIL wore such a light ivory dress is was almsot wite! i didn't know that utnil the ceremony, and later when soemone commented on someone's outfit, the bride ( who in the 2 years leading up to the weddign freaked about everything)said, 'well did you see what my mother in law was wearing?' She was so excited about it when she showed me, I just couldn't say anything.'
It didn't ruin her day. She obviosuly wasn't the bride.
Is yourt FMIL wearing the light blue dress?Light blue & peri will look ok together. Can the train on that dress be removed as a compromise? If not, don't worry about it. She is trying to cause a scene. Don't let her.

Sorry but I think you are obsessing a little too much. Who cares what she wears as long as she is comfortable and feels beautiful. JMHO
