After reading your edit I just have to say that IMO, an off white dress is completely unacceptable.

I wnet to a friends wedding where her FI's mother wore an off white, off the shoulder gown. From far away people were mistaking her for the bride, it was awful.

I hope you can prevent her from wearing it. Maybe if you put it to her that way? good luck.

I agree, don't let this ruin your day. I don't care what the mom's wear (i mean I do, but wouldn't stress) because when it comes down to the day all eyes are on the bride anyway!
