Re: Too many bridesmaids
I'm not sure I know what you mean by 'doubling up'... do you mean that two girls will walk together?
I think it's cute when one GM escorts two BMs... is that what you mean by doubling up?
Either way, you can always have the extra girls walk in unescorted, I think that is fine.

Yes that is what it means...two girls to one guy.

Re: Too many bridesmaids
I have a similar problem but reversed -- FH has 7 GM and I only have 4 BM including my MOH and my Maiden of Honor.
I don't think your FH should add more people if he does not want to. I do not want to add more people to mine to make it even, and I would be upset if my FH asked me too.
I am not sure why you hated it when you were in a wedding and had to double up??? I am planning to have two guys walk a girl down.
I know you want everyhting perfect for your wedding and you want everything even and symmetrical, b/c I felt the same way and stressed about it. But in the end, it will NOT ruin your pictures and people will not remember your wedding as the one that was lopsided!!

I don't think it looks bad to double up, and it's not like you can uninvite your friends just because the numbers don't match up. You and your FH should have whoever you want in your bridal party, don't worry about the totals. Good luck.

Re: Too many bridesmaids
I have less girls than my FH does guys, but I would not ask anyone else. I feel like I've asked the closest people to me to be a part of this and do not want to ask someone just so we don't have to 'double-up.' Honestly, how much of the evening is really spent doubled-up or being escorted?? Just when you walk in to the reception and up the aisle. For Pics I'm sure your photographer will know how to arrange you guys so you looked balanced. In the grand scheme of life this is a good probelm to have and I wouldn't let it get you and your FH into arguments!!!!!

Re: Too many bridesmaids
FW has 7 bridesmaids... I'm like your FH.. I have 5 guys and don't want to have a few more to stand in as filler.
The goromsmen have 'earned' their place with me.. that may sound weird I know.
Double up.. it'll be fine.

Re: Too many bridesmaids
well unless you want to dis-invite your BM to be in the bridal party...I would double up. I've seen that lots of times at weddings and it looks no better or worse than singles. I have 2 MOH, 1BM, 10 groomsmen and 5 BM. I am having the BM stand up front, my MOH walk in each alone, and then 2GM to each BM.

I had a similar issue. I was going to 'double-up' but I ended up having the 1st 2 girls walk down alone. It looked pretty good & a little more elegant than doubling up.

Re: Too many bridesmaids
We have 9 GM and 8 BM (although possibly 7 - I just wrote my pregnant cousin to ask her but I'm not positive she'll say yes). We're 'doubling up' too and I think it's totally fine. I definitely agree that your FH shouldn't have to add 'fillers' just to even it out. You should both have who is most important to you standing up there. If for you that's 8 people and for him that's 5, I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Re: Too many bridesmaids
Thanks everyone for your advice...I think that I will most likley double up or have some BM walk down side by side or alone. It's not that I think doubling up looks bad...I just know personally when I was in a wedding and had to walk down with 2 guys, I just felt awkard (it may of been because I was the only one who had to do it). There is a possibility that we might ask one of my brothers (i have 3) but we are going to wait a little bit to see how we feel about it in a couple of months. I know that it is such a minor thing to worry about...and that no matter what it will look fine.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Too many bridesmaids
I have 8 girls, and will definately have less on the men's side. Honestly, I think it will look fine. There are a couple of options you can do - I am considering doing those.
You can have one girl walk first - to start things off, and one girl go last, to finish that up. One guy, in the middle, can be paired with 2 girls, I am sure he would like that and it would look very nice on pictures!
Also, can just have 2 girls to one guy in the begning and the end.
I don't think you should de-bridemaid anyone. You may loose a friend. The way I look at it, wedding is just one day - you have the rest of your life you can be friends with these people - I wouldn't risk loosing a friend over that. Plus, you may always, later on, look at pictures and feel guilty - why would you want that?

Re: Too many bridesmaids
Alright Peeps....i did some thinking -tell me how this sounds:
First two girls walk down alone (both girls are married, one with a child so I think that's appropiate to have them walk alone and not with another guy)
Then 4 couples
then one more girl alone and then my MOH.
So 2 girls alone first then couples then 2 singles girls to end it.
I think that works???? What do you all think?

need advice ladies....I already asked all my BM's to be a part of the wedding, a total of 8 girls including my MOH. My FH is only asking 5 people, including his BM which leaves me with 3 girls with out a partner. My FH is very firm about not asking anyone else, because he feels that it is not right to ask someone just because he needs a 'filler'. Everyone is telling me just to double everyone up - but I don't want to do that!! I was in a wedding and I had to double up and I hated it!!! I am also afraid that it will look silly in pictures ~ I feel that I asked too many people and now it is too late. I don't know what to do and everytime we try to discuss it we get in a disagreement about it - what should I do...am I making too much of a big deal about this???
You have taken a page out of my life. I have 8 BMs and my FI has 4 GMs and he is really pissed at me. I don't bring it up anymore because all we do is argue about it. We're doubling up and in the future I am going to keep my big mouth shut!

Lots of BM that is nuts to me, but hats off to you....I've been to weddings like that before and it takes so much attention away from the Bride
