Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

My FH gets that at work! He answers them by saying something sarcastic like
'I would be unhappy too being married if I was married to your wife'
'When did I ask for your advice?'

He has no issues ignoring people or having a mouth..that's why i love him sooo

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

I cant really answer b/c fh is the first of all his friends to get married. None of his family would ever dare say that but maybe some of the morons he works with. I personally have never heard it... But I know my married friends warn me to run while I still can

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

My FH is a truck driver and he gets that from his co-workers. He says that they all talk about how miserable they are and half of them are cheating on their wives. He tries not to tell them his pesonal business. It disgusts me, but I know he'd never do that.

Old grouchy married men tell my FH that all the time

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

people say that all the time - it's insane! i get it at work from divorced people a lot!

i went for an oil change the other day - and told the guy i have a new name because i got married since i was last there, and he made a comment about it...

what's the deal with the negativity? are there that few happy marriages out there?

I get it from divorced women a lot too! One at work even said, 'Sure, he loves you now looking like this at 25...But in 20 years...!' I was like

Sadly I feel that there are very few older happily married couples who are examples of good marriages that last...

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

I keep getting it from my family... especially my aunt... but i take that with a grain of salt since she's currently going through a divorce...

I don't think FH gets it a lot though since he's the first of his friends to get married, and another is getting married 2 months later.

do people even realize what it sounds like when they say these things? it's incredibly rude!!!

My SIL (my brother's wife) bumped into one of Dale's old co-worker's and he told my SIL that Dale was an @ss for getting married. He is going through a divorce. But what a thing to say to MY side of the family!

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

LOL LOL

My FI's basketball buddies told him he should not get married a few Sundays ago. They are pretty much all miserable and cheating on their wives.

There was one voice of reason, the unmarried friend who has been living with his girlfriend for 13 years!!!! He told FI that if he is happy that he should do it.

FI gave all of that 'advice' a few moment's thought but then put it out of his mind. However, I have to say that FI was on the opposite side of that discussion a few years back after he ended a horrible relationship. He vowed that he would NEVER get married and I think his friends were ragging on him for changing his mind.

I have not yet heard that I should not get married from friends or family - not even coworkers. Then again, everyone that knows me realizes that I would totally ignore them and do what I want. LOL

I have lots of happily married couples in my family as does FI so I think that plays a huge part in this decision. FI's parents were married for nearly 30 years until his mom died. My parents are divorced but my maternal grandparents were married for 47 years until he died. I have aunts and uncles who are married and have been happy for 25 - 30 years.

I say just ignore all the negativity. Yeah, the divorce rate is like 50% but that means the other 50% are probably content.

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

Some guy at work sarcastically said 'good luck' once he found out about our engagement.

I have heard guys say things like this before. They probably do it because they are 1. jerks trying to look cool or 2. they are unhappily married- poor wives!!

FH has never mentioned any comments like that to me, but I'm sure he's heard them because even I have. People are just stupid. Just because their relationships didn't work out doesn't mean everyone else's will fail too. Everyone is different and people just need to get over their nagatvity and stop trying to bring other people down.

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

I get Kidding from some of the guys at work saying, 'Don't do it.. Don't do it.' I have not had anyone tell me not to get married and have been serious about it.

Thta's not to say that there hasn't been a part of me once in a while that hasn't gotten scared. (I put up a brave front though.)

It's a HUGE step.. and I know.. the right one.

Sometimes people who are bitter or jealus like to spread the wealth because of their own bad experiences.. Some fear 'losing' a friend. Whatever the reason your FH has to have his own mind and pay no attention/laugh off any comments on not getting married.

That's what I think.

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

I get told that all the time. They must live a miserable life to say it,and be unhappily married. My fw ( I get a warm feeling when i talk about her) puts a smile on my face all the time. She does everything to make me happy, and gives me alot of love and support. For example when my son doesn't want to come with me or see me when its my turn for visitation it breaks my heart. Bri does everything possible to cheer me up. Those guys who say that are very bitter, and live a crappy life. They don't know what they are missing out on. One word for them- LOSERS!

So far, I haven't gotten that kind of negativity, and I don't think FH has either.

I think the source for all that is when people aren't happy with their own lives, they try to kill other peoples happiness too. Don't let em ruin it for you!

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

I'm not sure about FH, but I've had plenty of women say things like 'Sure, it's all a fairytale now, just wait ... ' or 'It doesn't stay this way, wait 20 years or so. ' I've had a few relatives tell me I will regret the wedding day entirely and wish I had used the money to buy a house. I've had people roll their I eyes at me when I mention wedding excitment. I also get a host of negative comments about FH being 7 years younger than I. It's really sad. I try not to let it effect me, but some of these people are relatives. Why can't people just nod and smile????

Re: Question for Grooms and Brides

well...he gets that from some single friends...but they are all bitter since they have been slighted by women.

Married men we know are mostly happy...so i guess we've lucked out in that way. THey mostly just make jokes regarding the proverbial ball and chain...like:
It's all over man!
and
Hello future Mr. Clark! (MY last name)

we mostly just laugh it off.

I'm not really sure how many grooms are on this board, so brides ask your future husbands this question!

How many of you grooms have been told not to get married by older (middle aged) men who ARE married?

I know this is weird but my FH is getting so annoyed at all these men telling him he's an idiot for getting married, and i was wondering if alot of other guys are getting this too.

Thanks!

As I was walking down the aisle, my FORMER friend leans over to DH & tells him 'I got the limo running outside if you change your mind!' I know this b/c DH was *bugged* by the videogrpaher so he could record our vows.....the friggin nerve
