Re: (I don't really measure)....what do you put in your chili

I use the most of the ingredients you use....I don't measure either. I make mine in a crock pot.

I usually add some beef broth, but last week I used beer instead and it came out great.

I use red beans (i don't like kidney beans). I have added black beans also.

Lately, I have been keeping homemade chipotle sauce around. It gave the chili a kick and a nice smoky flavor. I took a can of chipotle in adobo sauce, cilantro and some lemon juice and pureed it. I keep it in a ziploc bag and use it in various dishes.

I buy this mixture of dry spices in the Supermarket called 2 Alarm Chili. It makes the best tasting chili. there is one packages in there that if you dont want your chili too hot you dont add it...or just add what you laike out of the package!! Of course I modify the recipe to suite my needs!!

Re: (I don't really measure)....what do you put in your chili

I use a couple of cans of tomato sauce, chopped tomatos, red and green chilis, green peppers, red kidney beans, and I throw in some chili powder, garlic salt and sometimes cumin and red chili flakes. Depends on what I have around and what I'm in the mood for. Sometimes I have ti over rice, sometimes over pasta.

I use the same as you for the most part except I use TVP instead of meat. I also make Black Bean chili sometimes.

Re: (I don't really measure)....what do you put in your chili

Posted by jenny2penny

I use
tomatoes diced/crushed and puree
chopped jallapeneos
onions
red and white (cancelli??) kidney beans
what ever meat (chpp meat,,or turkey if going healthy)
chili seasonings....

What else?? What's your secret?

I got the recipe I use from DH's Aunt, basically everything you listed except I don't use jalapeno, I use green pepper and cumin 1 teaspoon, and stewed tomatoes
I made this last night in my crock pot, it was the 1st time I used it, I was awesome, so easy with a crock pot. I am now crock pot obsessed!

Re: (I don't really measure)....what do you put in your chili

Dark Beer and believe or not, Chocolate! I also use beef cut up(like the kind you use for stew rather than chopped meat). The chocolate will actually temper the heat if you use too many chili peppers too!

Re: (I don't really measure)....what do you put in your chili

Because we have to watch our cholesterol, I don't use beef anymore. My chili came out really good with ground turkey.

I brown onion, and then brown the meat.
I add tomato sauce,
chopped green peppers,
minced garlic,
chili powder, cumin, red pepper flakes,
and then red beans at the end and serve over rice.

I hope I'm not forgetting anything. It's easy and great on a cool night.

Re: (I don't really measure)....what do you put in your chili

Brown 1 lb. Ground Turkey in a saute pan.
Add 1 Can Delmonte Tomato Sauce
Add 1 Can Red Kidney Beans
Add Salt Pepper
Add 1 Packet McCormich Chili Mix (mild, medium, hot - your choice)
Simmer for 1/2 hour.

Boil white rice, serve over rice with some shredded cheddar cheese.

Or take fresh tomato, lettuce, black olives and tortilla and make a wrap.
