being a teacher isn't glorious....you don't go into it for the $$ (in NY you end up with $$ BUT...)
You go into teaching to make a difference in someones' life....even just one! It's a great feeling and I've had a taste of it
also wanted to add that you can go ANYWHERE as a teacher should you decide to relocate! (I know for fact the districts down here are DESPERATE!)

Re: Grad School.....Need some HELP!
Is it 2 years full time? It is a lot of money, but if you are sure that is what you want, go for it! Just to warn you though--the phys ed jobs on Long Island are hard to come by--most of my friends with that certification started teaching in the city, where pay is not so good...

I think change might be exactly what you need! It'll be a great way to throw yourself into something new, and possibly meet some new friends or guys along the way!

Re: Grad School.....Need some HELP!
If it's something that you really want, then you'll find a way to make it work with the money. Also, as far as loans, you can always consolidate or stretch out the payments. If you're very concerned about it, I'm sure you could find out the tuition and then contact a loan company to see if they can estimate what your monthly payments would be. Good luck!

Re: Grad School.....Need some HELP!
Sounds like this is something your really want to do and would be great at. Have you looked at other colleges besides Adelphi? I know they are up there in price. Have you checked into Stonybrook or Queens college? I know they are much cheaper. If you are set on Adelphi, I suggest going down and talking to a financial aid counselor and seeing what they can get you in loans and how and when they will have to be repayed! Good Luck!!

Re: Grad School.....Need some HELP!
If it's what you want then you need to do it! I decided I wanted to go to Grad School for education three years after I graduated undergrad. I saved up as much money as I could over about a year's time, and I signed up at Hofstra. I went for about a year and a half part time, and paid each semester as it came up - so i have no loans leftover from grad school...which is great. was it tough to work full-time and go to school at night - hell yeah! was it tough to live on a tiny amount of money a week so i could continue to save? hell yeah was it worth every moment? of course! i have just entered my third year of teaching, and it is amazing ot see those kids every day and know that you're making a difference in their lives!!! go for it!!!

If you really want to do it then go for it. I am in a MBA program and it is not easy and takes a lot of my time (a work full time and go to school part time). It will take a total of 3 1/2 years but will be well worth it.

Jenny I say go for it. If you can go to school p/t and work p/t and get a loan for the tuition I think it would be such a great thing for you to do!
