My company just cancelled them too ... Everyone start taking Vitamen C and Ecinachea!

One of the manufacturers had contamination so there's only half the number of doses they expected. I'm trying to get my kids' the shot but having no luck so far.

We had a shortage of the shot last year too. I don't think it will be that big of a deal. Just keep yourself warm and healthy this winter.

Flu shots are overrated IMO. I never get them. I think the one year I did get the flu shot... I was sick for a week.

I agree. I can't get them anyway. The virus is suspended in egg protein (which I am allergic to). I tried it once, when I thought I was desensitized to the allergy. The injection site blew up to the size of a grapefruit and I got the flu anyway.

That's exactly the kind of story I want to hear! I never get one and neither does dh but I'm worried about the kids not having it. I was such a nervous wreck last winter and this year I finally decide to get them and there are none. Go figure. I keep telling myself it's not necessary, they'll be fine without it.

They apparently are not giving the flu shot to anyone over 23 months unless they are considered high risk.
My SIL just took her kids and she had to fight to get her daugher the shot because she is 3. The only reason she got it is because a realitive who my niece sees regularly is in the high risk category.
I didnt realize there was such a huge shortage until yesterday really!!!!

I have gotten the flu shot for the past 3 years and I (knock on wood) havent had anything worse than a runny nose in that time! I am alittle concerned now for this year! looks like its time to stock up on Vitamin C!

That's how I feel. While we are all young and otherwise strong and healthy, I don't see the point of getting a flu shot. Leave it for the elderly and other high-risk people to have.

I got one for the past 10 years, and never had a reaction to it. I got it in September and they never even mentioned the shortage of it (I am healthy and 26 so I guess I wouldn't have gotten it, though I was nervous about getting sick for the wedding...). Arm hurt for a day, that was it

Re: so what is going on with the Flu Shot?

I sell the only antiviral on the market made for the Flu, Tamiflu. We had an emergency meeting yesterday and the CDC has proclaimed that there were 98 million flu shots last year, this year 50 million, so there will be a run on it. The CDC proclaimed that only the old and young should get the vaccine. Should there be a deadly type A flu virus (occurs every 10 years) or should you have someone immunocompromised ie; asthma or COPD, you could take Tamiflu prophylactically for the season or for treatment if exposed. Pregnant woman cant take it. The flu can lead to pneumonia in immunoccompromised cases, especially if the vaccine antibodies wrong.
But yesterday, I got 30 calls from frantic doctors. It was crazy.
Hope that this helps.

That is helpful. Thank you.

Isn't there also a nasal vaccine? Has that one been contaminated as well, or is it just not being offered as a viable alternative b/c it's more expensive? Anyone know?

the nasal vacine is still an option for healthy people - not highrisk people because it is a live virus - just in a small weak dosage

that is probably your best bet to get if you want a flu shot this year
