That is SO rude. We had so many issues with DH's side of the family b/c we didn't invite any kids under 5. His aunt was constantly on our case. Just stick to your guns. If she opts not to come, that's her problem.

It's the bride and groom's decision to invite children or not. It was very rude of her to 1) ask your opinion on the subject, then 2) state she was bringing them regardless.

Some people!

Uh yeah, totally rude. Where do people get off telling you who gets to go to your wedding.

You are not wrong for not wanting children....personally I think it is sensible.

We had a strict no children policy & it ticked off a few people at first, but guess what, they got over it!

Most of the parents were happy not to have their kids whining to them 1/2 way through the night that they were tired/bored/hungry....you know

Seriously, I would have a family member or someone send a message through the 'family grapevine' that no children will be invited & there will be no extra accomodations (food, games, highchairs) for children....those with a problem will call you & then you can take care of any 'doubts'

Let her bring the kids, then when she walks into the reception, she will see she is the only one that brought kids. Also she will feel even more stupid when there is no seating arrangement for them. If the kids names are not on the invitations, she should realize then that they are not invited. If she calls you and asks to bring them when she gets the invite, tell her no. Stand your ground, and the only one that will be mad at you will be her. Everyone else will understand your point of view.

LOL what bothers me is... if she had every intent on bring her child regardless... WHY YA ASKING IF CHILDREN WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE FIRST PLACE???

Ugh - yes, that is most definitely rude. People really have nerve sometimes.

Bottom line, you and your FH need to do what works for you. If you are not inviting children, that is your decision. Making an exception for your cousin's children would be 1) unfair to you and 2) unfair to your other guests.

Best of luck to you!

Exactly! That's obnoxious! I'm afraid of what's going to happen if we don't have kids at our wedding. FI has a lot of kids in his family and I have none! Needless to say I don't want to invite kids!

Re: is this rude or what?

I had a NO CHILDREN requirement at my wedding, with the exception of DH niece and nephew who are very well behaved.

Bottom line your wedding, your choices. If anyone doesn't like it when too bad.

I eliminated anyone from my guest list that might cause me stress. Those ppl were my second cousins and they were All cut off the list

Stress free is what you aim to be

She is totally rude. I am dealing with this also. We only invited second cousins and we really could not get around that. Someone just replyed with 1 adult and 1 child when we invited 2 adults. Then someone replyed with 4 people and we invited 2 adults. HOW RUDE. Stick to your guns!

As for the people who say they can't possibly come without their darling child.....just say, 'Oh, too bad, we'll miss seeing you then....'

yesterday I was a baby shower for one of my cousins...and while I was leaving one of my of cousins comes to me and asks me what we are planning on doing about inviting children to the wedding (we decided not to invite them because b/t everyone there are 20 2nd cousins all children - that's a lot) so I told her that we haven't really decided yet (not really her busniess right now) and she turns to me and says 'well just to let you know I'm bringing mine'

Who does that? is that rude or what??? I'm sorry but I don't want to have a million kids running around and plus they are my 2nd cousins so I really don't know them - so now what am I going to do - and I can't invite some and not all.

I'm scared that not inviting them will cause ill feelings - am I wrong for not inviting them

I don't think your rude at all. I have kids and I've been invited to weddings that haven't invited the kids. People who get annoyed with your decision you shouldn't miss if they don't come. I have never taken offense, it's their choice. If it bothers you though that much I know the North Ritz Club as well as others has pricing for children. If you want the prices you can FM me, I was there the other night. Good Luck and Don't Stress!

Re: is this rude or what?

I'm having a problem with my FH's brother giving us a hard time about having his kids. Kinda saying that he won't go if his kids aren't going. Me and FH have a strict rule about kids -- no one under 16. Problem is, one of his brother's kids is 16, the one is 10. Do I say he can only have the older one come?

Also, if I have my FH's 10 year old nephew, that would mean I have to have MY brother's 2 young kids (8 and 5) and they DO NOT behave. I cringe at the idea of them fighting at the hall.

yeah that is very rude. i am not having any children at my wedding either. its to expensive to have them there and there are alot of them also. you had every right to tell her that you wernt sure yet. if i was in the situation and someone told me wll im bring mine i would have said you bring them you pay for them.

HOW RUDE!!!!!!!!

Re: is this rude or what?

From personal experience, let me tell you now - IT IS YOUR WEDDING. DO WHAT YOU AND FH WANT. I am not yelling, I just think that brides and grooms do not hear this enough from their family and friends (as indicated by the many posts I've read since I joined.) That person is SO rude. I have learned, the hard way, that many people will try to dictate your wedding, and many people will have an opinion on your wedding and your life, and not one of these people matter, in the end. If you don't want to invite children, don't. Next time you see her, if she is rude enough to ask again, say very sweetly, 'We're having a small wedding, so we're not inviting children.' Leave it at that. Let her huff up a storm if she wants. But in the end - It is your wedding. Do what you want. We will all support you!!!

I am so so sorry you have to deal with this. Why do family think they can get away with this stuff??? Do not let FH's brother hold you hostage with his invite. I think it's rude for people to do that, and if you let FH's brother do it now, he will do it over and over and over. I know, it's hard and you want to keep the peace, and your FH loves his brother, I am sure, but in the end, you will not get peace - just these people telling you what to do over and over again - that's my opinion (strongly). Sorry I am so vehement about this, it just bothers me to see other brides go through this. Ok, vent over. Good luck!!

Oh f@ck her! The nerve of people, I'd flat out tell her there will be no children at MY wedding and the keyword here is MY! Don't let her push you around. People like that really piss me off! If she insists on bringing them then I'd forget to send her an invite...oops must of been the mail man!

Yes, it is rude if you invite one and not the other. Don't invite any, they will get over it.

Good Luck

She was wrong to ask you in the first place. But you should have said right then and there that you were not inviting children to the wedding. I would call her soon and let her know what you want for your day. If she threatens to not come if her kids aren't invited, just simply say you are sorry to hear that and you will miss her company at the wedding. Always rise above the occasion!
