Re: Being a Godmother - HELP ME???
I don't know what it means to be a 'registered' Catholic...I guess they mean proof that you belong to a parish?Maybe you can go sign up at a local church and then wait a week, and ask for the letter.
I was Godmother twice (in a Catholic church baptism) and neither time did I have to provide any proof of any religion or membership.

You can sign-up for church?
I have no idea...how else would you be 'registered?' I think you do sign up with a Church...like when you move to a new city, how do they know whether you attend or not? Otherwise you could walk into any church in you town and claim you go there.

Wait - maybe they just mean they need proof of your baptism, etc....do you have your certificates you could show them?

yes--Catholic chuches expect you to register when you move into the area. If it is a tithing parish 9 as my old oen was) , they will then send you doantin envelopes all tthe time.
I needed this for my cousin's confirmation. I went, registered, attended for about 6 weeks ( and doanted), then called & asked for the letter- they were clueless, but when I finaly go to speak to thePastor, the said no problem, it is a standard form. Then when I went to pick it up, he said, 'See you Sunday' , with a certain emphasis that made me think he figured I only registered to get the form. I did go for a while though.
yo may be able to jsut get your sacriment records though--they are supposed to be held at the church you wer ebaptized at.
If your family is still registed there, or at the church you made your confirmation at, if they are not the same, you may be able to get the letter from them, although technically it is supposed to be where you live & attend now.

Re: Being a Godmother - HELP ME???
my sister was living in europe but came back for our nephew's christening (she was the godmother) at which she had to provide proof she was catholic. all they needed was her baptismal certificate. i believe it varies from church to church. i had another friend who's husband could not be the godfather of his neice b/c he did not marry my friend in the catholic church!

Re: Being a Godmother - HELP ME???
Go to your church where you made your sacraments. They'll give you a letter.

Re: Being a Godmother - HELP ME???
Yes, they just need to see any of your certificates that verify one of your sacraments. Best bet is your batismal, just contact the parish and they send it out within 48 hrs. You don't need to be registerd at a church you jus need to be baptized in a catholic church, mu daughter goes to catholic school we hear about these issues all the time

That's not exactly true - it depends on the church where the child is being baptized. I am my niece's godmother...I called the church where I received baptism, communion and confirmation - it happens to be the same church where my niece was being baptized...and they required a letter from my current church - regardless of the fact that they alreadh had all my records on file.
I didn't belong to a church so I went to the one we were getting married in, asked them for a letter and they typed one up for me that night....after I filled out some paperwork.
It was painless and relatively easy.

Re: Being a Godmother - HELP ME???
wow, I have NEVER heard that before, and I'm VERY invovled in my parish and with my daughter's school. i guess each church is different, i guess they want to see that you are a semi-practicing catholic . My church didn't require anything for my kid's godparents, 2 of them were never even baptized, and we come from a BIG , strict, roman catholic parish in Huntington. What happens if you;re not a registered member at a local church, you're not allowed to be a godparent? That's ridiculous!
